      Comments about Aviator Travel Backpack:

I was looking for a bag that I could carry-on to a trip to SE Asia for one week. With the help of a SpacePak packing cube, I was able to fit more than enough clothes in the bag, along with a pair of sneakers, flip flops, my dopp kit and some other random items. I did end up needing a second bag to carry my electronics - an SLR being the largest of them.

The Aviator Travel Backpack has some great features:
      - The integrated rainfly can be used as a dust cover when checking the bag
      - The straps are comfortable and easily zip away for streamlined checking or storage of the bag.
      - The zippers for top and bottom compartments can be locked with a single luggage lock for easy security.

I loved this bag. I have an Osprey Fairpoint 55 that is essentially 2 packs in one. I opted to purchase this Timbuk2 bag due to it's smaller size and carry-on status. It was much more comfortable than my larger pack and also more durable. The materials are rugged and I didn't have any concern tossing it onto a ferry, a longtail boat, or checking it on a discount carrier.

I love that when the straps are zipped away, it can easily be carried as a suitcase with the exterior handles.

A lot of reviews have noted limitations with space, which may be more prevalent for travel to colder destinations. I'm not sure how much clothing I could have packed had I been traveling the US domestically in February, but it's safe to say you could easily get by for a few days.

The bag held up and I look forward to many more travels with it!

      Comments about Aviator Travel Backpack:

This is a solid backpack, it seems very weather proof (love the included rain fly) has a nice laptop sleeve and fits A LOT but, it has no small organizational pockets and has no external water bottle/coffee travel mug holder. I overcame with first problem with some of Timbuk2's smaller bags that I either velcroed to the straps or put inside of it. But the lack of bottle sleeve is a pretty big drawback. Still a solid bag.

            Comments about Aviator Travel Backpack:

I was going to write my own review, but this guy summed it up perfectly:

After reading glowing reviews I purchased this bag for light travel and weekend getaways. Upon receiving the bag I was unimpressed. The hook and loop mechanism on the straps were awkward and looked cheap and flimsy. Stowing the shoulder straps is quite a process. The zippers were difficult. The laptop sleeve was insufficiently padded and strangely configured. The compartment zipper passthroughs weren't user friendly. The bag wasn't as large as I expected and I couldn't fit much more into it than my regular timbuk2 backpack I use for the same purpose. I returned the bag even though it meant taking a significant loss from the shipping charges.

            Comments about Aviator Travel Backpack:

Please understand and read reviews on this pack. This is a very solid travel pack, and extremely versatile. However I would strongly discourage purchasing this as an everyday school backpack. Someone who may see this as a unique and frankly awesome day pack, this is not the pack for you. (Awesome day packs = timbuk2 especial collection) To access the large, padded main compartment, I have to unclip 4 front clips, the top flap clip, and then unzip the bag. For a day pack this is too many fasteners, but for a piece of luggage this results in a versatile and secure pack. All the handle straps are heavy duty and a full pack is easy to maneuver. Versatile, featured packed but can be a pain to get in and out of quickly. That's what front pockets are for!

                Comments about Aviator Travel Backpack:

Decent bag, love the water proofing (used to have to buy covers in addition). The part that annoys me is that the zip on the back that lets you put the shoulder straps away is left open when you have the straps out (so 99.999999% of the time). This makes the back of the bag look clumsy and I hate seeing zips open or pockets left open. I will end up having to stich in some Velcro or something to try and keep that area sealed and tidy it up. I just don't get why it would be left this way when that is how the bag will be the majority of the time. The rest of the bag is good, pockets are good size and bag feels sturdy and weatherproof.

                Comments about Aviator Travel Backpack:

The Aviator is essentially a two compartment piece of lightweight carry-on luggage that can be comfortably worn as a backpack. The design is clear and relatively clever with a large expandable main cavity covered by the broad front panel and the top flap concealing a second compartment intended as a "place to quarantine the stinky stuff."

This is great, right up until the compartment I'm supposed to place shoes and dirty laundry in also hides the laptop sleeve. No, it isn't a compartment it's a snug sleeve you can slip a thin laptop in. A strap of nylon about 2" wide held on with a square of velcro (or hook and loop fasteners if you must) to ensure a few snags in your valuable wardrobe is intended to secure said laptop, if not as effectively as the snug fit. Perhaps it's just my time in IT or the price tag of something like a 17" MacBook Pro that makes me want it isolated from sources of dust, pebbles and other unmentionable detritus that could damage it.

The Aviator boasts pouches on each flap but those are pretty much only good for thin flat items like your boarding passes and passport. As a simple piece of carry on luggage that will be easy on your back as well as the eyes this bag succeeds well. As a laptop bag; however, it is pretty tragic. There is no way to access your computer aside from the top compartment, requiring you to free the strap from its velcro without getting it caught on anything else or spilling the contents as you pull your laptop out. Isolated laptop compartments and secondary access panels are common on other Timbuk2 laptop bags but, they're sorely missed here.
