So, I never win anything. Ok, that’s not true, once I won a free
subscription to that magazine, Highlights. By the time I got my hands on
it, each month, of course, someone else in the household (I had a lot of
brothers and sisters, not all of them blood relatives or frankly even always
recognizable to me during mealtime), someone had done all of the fun games
in the back…you know, word search, those “where’s Waldo” and all the other
stuff. I was pissed. But revenge is sweet, little brother, eh?
But back to today. I wanted to express how thrilled I am to have won runner
up in the “Timbuk2 Halloween Dress Up Contest”. I realize that to the naked
eye, my “tourist” costume may seem a lot like my regular office attire, the
khaki’s, the pants just a little too short…but I swear I never (ever) wear
black socks with white sneakers, except possibly in a very stressful laundry
crisis. I would also like to point out that except on one trip to Europe,
during which I was already publicly humiliated and made to acknowledge the
error of my sartorial ways, I have never worn this fanny pack before, at
least out in public, or while wearing other things. I found it this morning
deep in my closet.
The San Francisco tee shirt, mug and sweatshirt I got all for $14.98 at
Walgreens, which I thought was a pretty good deal, all considered.
I wanted to give a thanks to keri, our fabulous Vibe Manager, for
acknowledging those of us who dressed up today, and for getting us great
prizes that celebrate organic food even though it’s Halloween and who the
hell doesn’t prefer a real Reese’s peanut butter cup than one made out of
f*&^%$ vegan peanut butter.
On another front, if peanut butter was supposed
to come in two parts (oil and butter), it would be in two separate jars.
Come ON keri, don’t try to make me into a “my body is a temple” kind of
person. As Tim will tell you, I never met a vegetable I didn’t cast aside in
favor of a far superior french fry.
