In a recent article published by MSNBC entitled: Deadly tension on the roads — cars vs. bikes reporter Alex Johnson explores some ups but mostly downs of the current rise of bicycle riders in America. In the section titled More bikes mean more accidents he states
…in the months since motorists began pedaling in droves, it has become clear that all those cyclists on the streets pose a significant problem: all those cyclists on the streets.
Citing the 11 bicyclist deaths in New Jersey as a reference for the rest of the nation.
Meanwhile here in San Francisco the city is still at a standstill implementing its bike plan after Rob Anderson sued the city for not producing an official Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for what would happen to the environment in San Francisco if parking spaces and traffic lanes were removed in place of Bike Lanes! Because bicycles are clearly a threat to the environment! Today in a response to a question about his take on the cities effort to create a reformed EIR he said
the EIR better have a convincing case to justify the changes they want to make, especially where they want to take away traffic lanes and street parking…because taking away a traffic lane to make bike lanes, not surprisingly, can make traffic worse.
That is of course if the lanes are put in and the same number of people drive cars vs getting onto bikes.
Watch out America, according to Johnson and Anderson, mo bikes = mo problems.
