Timbuk2’s Natalie M is making us proud. She’s fundraising for Umthombo, A non-profit org based in South Africa that works with street youth in some of Durban’s roughest neighborhoods. Their ultimate goal is to change the way society treats and perceives street children in South Africa. There are five pillars in the Umthombo organization; the street team, mentoring, mobile health clinic, advocacy and after care program. The after care program helps children integrate into the community or back into the family home. The will pay for the child’s schooling and assist in providing nutrition. This past summer Natalie traveled to Durban to work as a member of the street team for 5 weeks. Upon returning to USF this fall, Natalie and a fellow student began a club on campus to advocate and fundraise for this great organization.
Umthomobo USF is selling handmade holiday cards which feature a photo that was taken on the trip this summer, and information about the organization. The cards are a $5 minimum donation, with all the proceeds going right back to the organization! To learn more and donate, check out www.umthombo.org . Natalie, you rock.
