Did I hear bike Panniers???

Yes, it is true… Timbuk2 is designing bike Panniers and I got to test one of them out… not only does it carry my computer, iPhone, sketchbook, and other precious daily items, but it also carries my dog… She might be small… but she sure does take a BITE out of life! Check it out…

What kind of dog is that? How much does it weigh?

OMG, this is great news! If you need more testers (ahem!), I’d love to give them a spin around Baltimore.

    THANK YOU!!!!

A recent yoga workshop highlighted that my increase in cycling for my commute has translated into increase tightening of my shoulders from a combo of my messenger bag & my death grip. ;)

I would LOVE to see Timbuk2 bike panniers! A friend and I were talking today about how it doesn’t make sense that cycle forward Timbuk2 doesn’t have panniers yet.

Could you include a handle or strap so they are easy to carry off the bike as well?

And if you need another tester, please let me know!

    Love Timbuk2!!!!

Wow. Great feedback! We do yoga at Timbuk2 once a week and we all suffer from tight shoulders. However, I suspect it may be more about sitting at our desks and less about our bikes . . . interesting. I will explore that tonight in class. The panniers will have handles; they’re really easy to put on/off racks. You’ll love it.

Part of the shoulders / yoga thing was I had attended a workshop Saturday that really worked our shoulders, especially the trapezius. I threw my covert messenger bag over my shoulder Sunday (admittedly, to go to the library – heavy!) and winced from how tender my shoulder was. I have seen my shoulders get a bit tighter since I’ve up’ed the bike commuting. And I love the bike commuting, so I need to find that peaceful place of nirvana. ;) I could see how desk work (or sewing!!) could add to tightness too.

At any rate – I did think, I want my bike to carry my stuff! Not me! ;)

So my only question now is how soon can I get my new panniers and love them to death? ;)

Great progress… but I need it to convert to a messenger bag when I arrive at my destination.

Very nice though… I heartily approve.

    Stay tuned Sam :)

Dharma is a Chiuaua mutt and is about 11 pounds.
Disclaimer for putting your dog in a panier, basket or any bag: They will try to jump out the first couple times :)

    I second Sam.

As an intermediate step, though, I request a cross-body strap at the very least. I am hella excited about this development!!

Can’t wait for these to come out. I’ve been wanting a pannier that easily converts to a messenger bag for carrying around the hospital for more than 2 years. I rigged my current panniers with a webbing strap and dive buckle but it’s not attached to the bag so everytime I open the bag, the strap falls off. Would love to have a more permanent and better crafted solution. Color me excited! When are they scheduled to be released?

The Panniers will arrive in early November!

I am also very excited about the panniers. It sounds like you are no longer in the design phase but I would like to suggest that they attach to the rack at the top and bottom. I have tried several types of panniers and those that just clip on the top don’t always stay in place during a rough ride.
