Timbukme2: New Employee Nicole

Nicole Peterson & her new bag

Me, super excited about my new Timbuk2 bag!

Where did you come from?

I’m originally from the east bay; Moraga to be more precise. I went to college at UC Santa Cruz, and started working at PricewaterhouseCoopers right out of school. PwC is a wonderful firm, but after two years, I was kind of over that gig, so I ended up here! At the lovely Timbuk2 offices, with puppies and messenger bags and a sometimes working coffee machine. It’s simply fantastic.

What skills are you most proud of?

Not to toot my own horn, but I am an excellent gift giver. I start my Christmas shopping list in about July and update it throughout the next five months, until I finally decide on the perfect present. It’s probably the thing I do best in the world and yeah, I’m pretty proud of it.

What bag did you walk in the door with on your first day here?

The bag I used on my first day was actually not a Timbuk2 bag. Coming from the more business formal world, I only had stuffy corporate bags. The bag I used on my first day was a briefcase my dad gave to my mom several years before I was born that I recently swiped from their house. It’s just a plain briefcase with a long strap and can fit almost nothing. If I recall correctly, on the first day it had my wallet, a notepad, and my phone in it, and that’s it. For all its business formal look, it’s quite impractical. I couldn’t wait to upgrade to my new custom designed Timbuk2 bag! It’s pretty boss, if I do say so myself.

What is your wildest dream job, real or imagined?

My ultimate dream job is Rap Superstar. I might not look it, but I can really spit lyrics. Tragically, however, I cannot write a rhyme to save my life. I love Kanye’s wordplay so much, but it makes me sad to listen to because I know I will never be able to produce anything quite as inventive. Sigh… Oh well. At least there’s always karaoke.

What is your favorite song to sing aloud when you are alone in the elevator, the car, or a deep wooded forest?

Going along with my response above, “Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj is the best song to sing alone in your car. Fact. However, close seconds would include “Good Life” by Kanye West, “99 Problems” by Jay-Z, and “Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go?” by Soft Cell. All winners.

Nicole P's Very First Bag

Here’s a close-up picture of my very first bag! It looks orange in the picture, but it’s really a deep red.

Halloween 2011

Halloween is serious @Timbuk2 (see 2010 & 2009). We don’t believe in slutty nurse costumes; we believe in clever (and perhaps a little bit slutty) costumes. The competition was stiff this year – bat dogs, dangerous boobs, men in pink tutus, lederhosen, disco mamas and papas – but Jordan’s Banksy throwing flowers was voted Timbuk2′s most clever costume.

These boobs were a close second.

This year we wanted to see your Halloween A game, so we ran a Clever Costumer Contest on Facebook. Fans submitted photos of their costumes and the getup voted “most clever” won a free custom bag. “Black Mail was the winner with 192 votes.

Fan Mail: The Whole Beast

Our friend John roasts whole animals over open fires for a living. And for years he bike commuted over the Golden Gate bridge with a Timbuk2 bag full of knives. He’s a real life American badass.

After years of working in San Francisco’s best restaurants, John started The Whole Beast. A San Francisco-based operation, John roasts lambs, goats, pigs, salmon and anything else that begs to be licked by the open flame in backyards, parking lots, vineyards and rooftops across the country. If you’re gonna eat meat and whole lot of it, John is your man. But importantly, he has a “zero waste” approach to cooking. He respects the seasons, sources locally, pays particular attention to animal husbandry, uses every part of the beast and rewards his lucky clients with superior taste. He also has a rad logo.

Having met and worked with John, we were very proud to learn that he has been a Timbuk2 fan from the beginning. He owns and uses dozens of Timbuk2 products in is nose-to-tail cooking adventures.

New to Timbuk2: Kasey

Hello Everyone! This is officially my first blogging experience ever and I am super excited about it! My name is Kasey, I’m new to the T2 family and am loving every minute of it so far. I was asked to answer some brief questions as a helpful way to introduce myself, so here we go!

Where did you come from?
I was born in San Francisco (shout out) but was raised in Petaluma – home of the Butter & Eggs Day parade…jealous?

What skill are you most proud of?
I can screenprint, it’s so fun and I think it’s pretty cool.

What bag did you walk in the door with on your first day here?
The first bag I ever got from Timbuk2 (pre empolyee status) was a custom Medium CMB all gunmetal with a hot pink logo (sadly that simple bag took me about 3 days off and on to design.)

If you were invited to a potluck tomorrow-what dish would you bring?
Home made salsa! I’m so proud of it, it’s one of the only things (with variations of course) that I can cook and promise it will taste good without reading off of a recipe!
What is your wildest dream job real or imagined?
Oh man, this is a tough one, there are just so many things! I love working with people and design, and colors, fabrics, creativity…sort of marketing meets art director meets social media collaboration!

What is your favorite song to sing aloud when you are alone in the elevator, the car, or a deep wooded forest?
Oh, anything Britney Spears…I’m not ashamed.
Last, but certainly not least, I want to introduce you all to the bag I designed and watched being made in our San Francisco factory. I love it. I’m so proud and hope you all enjoy!

What’s in a Name?

This limited edition, made in San Francisco messenger launches tomorrow in a very limited quantity. It’s made from a Poly cotton blend that features 50 celebrity faces at a low repeat, so every bag made is unique. Some feature Che, others Lady Di. You cannot choose your face and we think it’s beautiful.

Timbuk2 Face Messenger

We felt this bag deserved a weighty, worthy name. So we asked our community to name it. 266 people submitted ideas on Facebook and “Iconoclast” was the winner. “Dead Heads” and “I See Dead People” took a tight second and third.

Iconoclast Facebook Poll

But there were several others that simply must be mentioned:

  • Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?
  • Stop Looking At Me
  • Prosopagnosia (look it up)
  • Important Dead People (such depth!)
  • Luminous
  • Messengers
  • Unusual suspects Keyser Soze

  • Enjoy our made in San Francisco Iconoclast Messenger.

Our new Nightrider Messenger was not necessarily inspired by the Hoff, but his soundtrack makes it hot hot hot. Ups to the Hoff.
