      Comments about Candybar Backpack:

After a miserable experience traveling with my old backpack (it had no structure so was always flopping over and was way to big) I decided to treat myself to a new backpack specifically for travel. My son already has the command TSA backpack that he travels with but I wanted something even smaller and I don't need it for my laptop so the candybar was the perfect size. I am only 5'2" and this pack fits me well and is very comfortable. I just returned from a week on the California beaches with it and it worked out great. I love the little side zip pocket for the cell phone and it is easy to reach and even fits my big android size phone. I used the back side zip pocket for all my travel documents and reading materials. The front velcro pocket held my comb, pens, chapstick, mints, extra battery pack, and hotel room key card. I also used the key attachment for the rental car keys. The main pocket held my headphones, pullover, wallet, snacks, water bottle, etc. It fits well under the seat in an airplane and is cute and stylish as well. More than anything else I love that it has structure and stands up on it's own when I set it down and is slim in profile. The only downfall is the light color is bound to show more dirt and wear over time but for the exceptional sale price I will accept that. Yes, this pack is small but efficient and since I don't travel with a purse this is just the right size for my needs.

      Comments about Candybar Backpack:

I bought this in the light grey/pink color to use as an everyday carryall. I treated it with a fabric protector, but the back picked up color from my jeans (not new ones), and other clothing right away. The top flap only closes with the buckle. It needs a hook-and-loop backup closure--mine is flapping open a lot of the time, as that's where I keep my wallet and keys. The front pocket is too small for larger items. If I stuff them in there, that pocket doesn't close either. But the key fob is in there, so I attach my keys and then flip them over the top into the main compartment--awkward. It has some great features--a carry loop, fold-in sides to cover the main compartment contents, a slash zipper pocket on the front of the outside pocket that's perfect for my phone. It's lightweight, sturdy, and stylish. But the cons outweigh the pros, and I'm about to retire it after about a three-week test drive.

Slightly annoying to unbuckle the main flap to access the front pocket, but the most essential stuff can go in the front pocket's easily accessible side zip. Love how sweet it looks yet how functional it is. Don't go anywhere with it anymore.

        Comments about Candybar Backpack:

Agree with others: Stylish; compact; fits my 5'4" frame snugly and perfectly; kept stuff dry during Boston snows and light rain; and yes, the straps are too long (folded them back with zip ties so they don't get stuck in subway seats). In general, love all the pockets and am still figuring out how to use them; but also would love another flat zipped inner pocket. Love the sturdy well-made carrying handle.

Con1: I don't trust outer sleeve for MacBook Air (maybe because zipper is on wrong side for right-hander) so just store flat bags in it. Computer goes inside, in my own sleeve, which invalidates water bottle slot -- because don't want water near computer and they both wouldn't fit anyway.

Con2: The buckle is a tiny bit over-designed and hard to close -- inconvenient if I am at the front of a line of people. Recently I've noticed that if I have stuffed the front pocket, like with a fat wallet, sometimes the velcro flap unsticks and seems to prevent the buckle from closing. I've been surprised to look back and see the whole thing hanging open. (Not sure exactly how that happens with the over-designed buckle).

          Comments about Candybar Backpack:

Absolutely fantastic design. Plenty of room for everything I need. Easy to organize everything that this bag carries. The padded computer compartment is perfect and its location at the back of the bag keeps my electronics well protected. Having a separate zippered opening makes the compartment extremely convenient to use without having to open the main bag.

          Comments about Candybar Backpack:

I've been a messenger bag girl all my life. Now I have shoulder issues and my bag was not cutting it. This is my first back pack and I love it. All the pain I had carrying my laptop top or even iPad is gone. I researched for ever for one that would fit me (5'2") and not look bulky and this does the trick. It's super roomy and very comfortable. It's slick looking where I don't mind going from work to a nice restaurant and feeling weird about having a back pack with me. Love all the compartments and I actuall can find my stuff now. Yes the straps are way to long. Yes something to take care of that would be nice. But I folded mine in half put a stich through it and now it's perfect. All in all great commuter and travel bag.

          Comments about Candybar Backpack:

Mainly used for the commute. Items stack neatly and securely given the narrow width. Love the easy access exterior pockets - makes grabbing the wallet or phone on the go a cinch. Not in love with zero ventilation for your back when biking. (Change of shirt a must.) And the fabric is tough to keep sparkling clean.

          Comments about Candybar Backpack:

I'm an executive. I often commute to work via public transit, cycling, scooter, and/or walking. I've bought several nice, expensive one-strap bags (Tumi messenger, Chrome one-shoulder backpack) but they all hurt my shoulders and back really badly compared to a backpack. Plus, I find they don't really stay put on my back if I'm riding my bike. Unfortunately most backpacks are hideous looking and totally unprofessional & tacky. I also wanted a smaller bag so I couldn't pile up so much stuff in it (also hurting my shoulders / back).

In general this bag is great. It's compact; fits a laptop, lunch, water bottle, a sweater, a notebook. It's nice enough looking that I'm not embarrassed to be seen with it at work.

One caution: I had an earlier version made out of off-white canvas. It's not the ripstop nylon used for most other Timbuk2 bags. While I preferred the texture and feel of natural canvas, it picked up dirt like crazy. Washing didn't seem to help; the dingy smudges are still visible. So I'd get this in a darker color if they haven't updated the material at all.
