Comments about Classic Messenger Bag:

As an upgrade from the 2013 Classic Messenger, it has a few shortcomings while providing some much-needed features. I love the new design and look, as well as the more supple strap, new handle as standard, and integrated compression straps on the bottom.

However, there are also a good number of additions I don't love about this "new" version (new to me, as I've been using a 2013 model since, well, 2013, and am a bit late to the party as a result). The inexplicable removal of the three front pockets and their replacement with a single narrow pocket really cut down on the amount of things you can keep organized in this bag - previously, I would use those pockets for things like phone chargers, packs of gum for the airplane, keys, and chapstick. Now that it's just one pocket, it has become difficult to fit all of these items in the same location, especially without them clashing into each other and making noise.

The interior zipper pocket (not the hidden "napoleon" pocket, but the horizontal pocket) has also had a bit of a facelift done to its organizer pockets - that is, they've removed the pockets entirely, also for reasons I can't understand. I've now resorted to keeping only medium-sized loose objects in there that won't be damaged by moving around, whereas before, that was my go-to location for fragile items like sunglasses. The pockets on the main compartment have also been cut down, and I'm especially bummed to see the removal of the lightly padded velcro flap pockets, which were awesome for storing earbuds. The larger pen pockets are also a letdown, and they cause the pens to slide around.

Other nitpicks I have with this bag are that the hidden buckles will rotate upward when the bag is laying flat, such that, when I close the velcro, they are facing away from the male end of the buckle and I have to dig around in there to orient them correctly. The velcro also seems quite a bit louder than previous versions - something to consider if you'll be using this in an office environment.

Overall, though, if you can live with fewer pockets, this is still a great bag. It has the typical Timbuk2 feel to it - ruggedly stylish, while providing great function. If you're still holding onto a 2013 or earlier Classic Messenger, though, I would hold off a bit longer before upgrading. I wish I had, and I will likely buy a newer version of this bag if and when the pocket situation is remedied,

I haven't used this one yet. But i have owned a bag for more than a decade. Only one inside zipper is broken. I wanted a smaller size. So if the quality hasn't changed then i expect to have this bag along time as well.

      Comments about Classic Messenger Bag:

I live in NE and walk to work. I've always had a big backpack to carry everything I need for the day (and weather). I ditched my big bulky backpack for this bag. It's spacious, but not too large that I can overfill it and make it too bulky. It fits a lot but helps me restrict what I'm throwing in. It's surprisingly more comfortable than a backpack for walking to work, particularly with a heavy Macbook Pro. It's sturdy and nice enough to take to client meetings. The only issue I have is that if I swing it around to get something out, often the piece that holds the strap length in place comes undone and I have to reposition. It's a minimal issue, but can be annoying nonetheless. I'm really happy with my purchase of this bag.

        Comments about Classic Messenger Bag:

I have bought a few shoulder bags recently, hence spent quite a bit. Those bags I bought met some of my needs but this timbuk2 I bought by far the best. I have been using it since I have it and have been neglecting the rest. This bag is full of useful and practical compartments. I highly recommend to those looking for a shoulder bag.

            Comments about Classic Messenger Bag:

I bought this bag for two reasons: 1) I had an international trip coming up to a somewhat insecure country and 2) I needed a new bag for work (I fly constantly and need something durable as well as professional enough). I was curious if I could fly something that worked for both. Timbuk2 killed two birds with one stone (proverbially). I first ordered the size medium, and that was wayyy to big to be comfortable for lots of walking/traveling (unless you don't have my tendency to use all available space). I returned it for the size small in a brighter color, and it is perfect! I didn't bring a laptop on my trip and used the additional space to carry a light jacket. It was perfect for everything from wine tasting to beach days to city walks, and the multiple zipper compartments made it easy to keep important items secure. Now that I'm home again it does duty as my work bag, and I love its sporty but stylish zip. Perfectly fits everything I need for a plane ride plus a day in the office.

              Comments about Classic Messenger Bag:

The quality was on par with my expectations, it is well built and with very nice finishings.

The size was the right for me, althouhg it is the "small" there is plenty of room for a medium laptop, some books and extras.

I plan to use it on day trips because I do photography and I can carry a small camera with some extras and I like to have my camera accesible all the time, something that is difficult with a regular backpack.
