    Comments about Cog Pannier:

I tried two Detour's Panniers and a Basil pannier before I found this one! The Detours were flimsy: one broke, the other's laptop mesh got stretched out and floppy within the first week. Basil was too small, the velcro unreliable, and the zipper awkward and sticky. None of them were waterproof. This cog pannier is perfect! It is HUGE inside - will hold students papers for grading, my lunch, laptop and a change of clothes (and scarf, jacket and gloves when it warms up from a cold morning commute). I love how sturdy it is and that it is waterproof too. Almost perfect...I wish it had one more small gear pocket inside and that it had a pad on the shoulder strap. A cover for the hooks would be a nice bonus for when I carry it as a bag. But everything else is great! I love how you can close it smaller or larger with both the sturdy velcro and the strap. Excellent bag! Thank you!

    Comments about Cog Pannier:

I use these panniers to commute to and from work with my lunch, laptop, a change of clothes and a LOT of paperwork. They're great for protecting my load from the drizzly Pacific Northwest, but it would be useful if they incorporated more pockets or dividers to help me organize my cargo.

      Comments about Cog Pannier:

This is a very useful bag. I've only had it for three weeks, but it seems pretty sturdy and well-made. I use it to bring my gym clothes to work and to transport a few work documents. I'm probably not fully utilizing the bag's size, but it has been good so far. For maximum use, you want containers or objects that are longer/taller than they are wide. The only thing I would change is some cover for the hooks when it is not latched to the bike (similar to the concertible messenger/pannier Timbuk2 makes.)

      Comments about Cog Pannier:

This is my first pannier and I couldn't be more happy with my purchase! I don't even use it to transport a computer/iPad and yet I still think it's great. I use it mostly for commuting and errands. It has the perfect amount of space for taking everything I need for work or for picking up a bag of groceries at the store. My only wish is that it had more than one pocket so that I could organize the smaller things I want to put in it. But this seriously a great bag that I will use just as much as my Timbuk2 messenger bag that I got 4 years ago.

      Poorly designed clip system

          Comments about Cog Pannier:

The bag itself is great. Rigid and waterproof, with dedicated space for iThings and an easy-to-access key pocket, which is everything i want in a commuting back. However, the attachment system is not designed well and has not held up to normal use. I've had three failures on two separate bags; the 2nd failure caused me to crash).

Timbuk2 won't refund my money, so i've removed all Timbuk2 attachment clips and brackets and replaced them with parts from a reputable German pannier maker. It works well now, but with the replacement parts from the other manufacturer i'm well beyond my initial budget for a commuting bag. Very disappointing.

          Comments about Cog Pannier:

This year, I started commuting by bike to work (only 3 miles, so nice and easy). I got a quick tip from a friend that a pannier helps a lot (because all the weight is off your back), and I ordered the Cog.

It has been wonderful! I'm able to transport my entire lunch (lots of jars and tupperwares) daily, as well as a rain jacket and pants, and an umbrella without a problem. I can usually cram in some groceries after stopping on the way home too. I like it so much I just ordered a second one. Fits on the rack nicely, and I get compliments when I wear it off the rack too.

One complaint: the hand strap could be padded. I tend to load mine up, and it just gets uncomfortable fast. Fortunately this is a minor issue for an overall fantastic bag.

          Comments about Cog Pannier:

The Cog pannier looks great on my Focus Planet TR1 commuter bike and has lots of useful pockets. The latter is something I've found hard to find on other bags. After similar issues with my last pannier (not a Timbuk2 model) I was more than a little disappointed that my Cog also broke at the lower attachment point on its third ride (the plastic "T" shaped hook snapped off). On the plus side, Timbuk2 have been very quick to send me out a replacement part (I'm in Australia so exchange is a bit tricky) and the pannier stays put even without the lower attachment because the top attachment can be tightened once its on the rack. Some more instructions on how to attach the pannier would have been useful. It took quite a bit of fiddling before I worked it out. Its a little less convenient than the one handed attachment on some other panniers but it also stays put better than others I've used. Regarding the design, as I've said, I love the pockets and the cool black finish, and though I was a little worried abut how waterproof the top closure would be, I've found the bag stays dry on wet rides. I also appreciate the sensibly placed reflectors and the little touches like the way the top hooks fold flat. I've read some criticism of the minimalist shoulder strap but I like it. The absence of a shoulder pad means it tucks away in the bag very easily. Its a wide strap so its comfortable enough for short walks. My tip is take a padded strap off an old bag if you really need more comfort for longer walks. Overall, I think the Cog is a great design which just needs a few tweaks to make it a top performer.

            Comments about Cog Pannier:

This bag is fantastic. I got it to replace a pannier that was very cute but had huge loops to secure it to the rack, so it knocked forward into my foot and out against the side of the bike. This Timbuk2 pannier has a T-shaped hook that swings out to keep it from sliding forward. It's very secure and pretty. Two of the top hooks swing to the side for when you have it on your shoulder, though the middle hook doesn't so it's not super comfortable. But overall great product! So easy to put on/off the bike and lots of room inside.

              Comments about Cog Pannier:

I use this for daily commuting with a macbook in it at all times. Good amount of space for that and some further bulky items. Easy to carry on and off the bike.

After a bit of practice, attaching and detaching is a one-hand operation: slide hand under the loop handle, lift bag with the the back of your hand up while actuating the red knob to release from bike rack.

This is my second bag after a no-fuss, and beyond-expectations warranty replacement due to my inability to stay on the bike and, hence, ripping the first bag and its attachment off the rack. Very sturdy built (almost bomb proof - I tried it!)

It's a nice way to keep my stuff dry in the monsoon that we tend to encounter year-round up here in Vancouver.
