Comments about Command Backpack:

This backpack was exactly what I was needing for a week long business trip. It served as my carryon and helped me comfortably carry around my laptop and materials while attending a conference. Only minor complaint is that the description stated you don't need to open up and remove your laptop while doing through TSA security. Wrong! Tsa not only wanted me to open up my bag... But wanted my laptop completely removed and in a separate bin. Not necessarily the fault of Timbuk2... Just not an accurate statement given the nature of our airport security and how vastly different the rules seems to be for each airport.

The product it's self is stellar though...I own 2 other Timbuk2 bags and love them both. Each serve a different purpose and each have been through hell and back and have held up as if the day they were bought. Couldn't be happier.

    Comments about Command Backpack:

I'm not sure I've ever laid eyes on a backpack produced with such immense thoughtfulness and quality.

Every week I notice a new reason it was designed the way it was, and I can't say that I have a single bad thing to say about this backpack.

        Comments about Command Backpack:

My awesome wife bought this for me as my H.A.L broke down after about 4 years of service. We call it the whale as it can swallow down almost anything!

I used the H.A.L backpack before this and thought that was the best, swallowing all that I can throw at it. This is so much better, I get more compartments, it looks better, the straps feel more cushioned and I feel it can fill just about the same as the H.A.L! I now carry it often to work, outings and to church!

The only con was the front main compartment zipper. It was hard to zip at the top.

          Comments about Command Backpack:

I've had my Command backpack for almost a month now, and I am so happy with my decision about getting it. I had a Timbuk2 messenger bag (which I also love) but I found myself needing a little more room so I wanted to give a Timbuk2 backpack a try.

I primarily use this bag for work; I wanted something that was professional looking as well as practical and that is what I got in this bag. It has plenty of space for me. I read some reviews prior to purchasing complaining about the laptop storage being in an inconvenient place, but I really like how the laptop storage is designed because I know my laptop will be protected. If I'm in a hurry my laptop easily fits into the main compartment, so I am glad I didn't let that review turn me off from this bag.

My Yeti fits into the side mesh water-bottle compartment, which is good because it is too wide to fit into the one on my messenger bag. I also find this backpack to be super comfortable to wear and it has a side handle to grab the bag which I also really like.

          Comments about Command Backpack:

The Bag looks nice, straps and the padding on the back are good. The rest is not so good.

          - The material the bag is made with is very floppy. Start putting stuff in the pockets and the bag becomes harder to manage.

          - The bottom straps seem to be there to cinch the back tight when you have less stuff. Two problems here... 1) you can't cinch it tight enough for stuff not to slide to the bottom which slowly opens the straps. 2)Even cinching the bottom and then filling the bag is a problem become the floppy/slippery material allows things to slide around in the now top heavy bag (so don't run for a taxi or train in this mode).

          - Biggest feature I bought it for was the fold out laptop case. Doesn't work. Most airports make you take it out when you try this. Especially since a full pack doesn't allow the laptop to lie flat (which is a big no no). Flipping the bag so that the open flap is interior down lets the laptop be flat but dirties the interior and still confuses security enough to make you pull it out. (I've done this in multiple domestic and international airports). Finally resigned myself to inserting the laptop in the document sleeve and pulling it out each time (which is actually easier than trying to leave it in the flap).

          - The pockets in the interior are those typical "not really meant to be filled" pockets. You know, where two sheets of fabric are just sewn together. The result is that using some pockets makes others unusable. They also deform the nice contours of the bag.

The bag gets 1 star for looks (when mostly empty) and 1 free star because I've been a long time Timbuk2 fan, but I'd steer clear of this one until they work out the kinks.

One final note, if you are a fan of the "made in SF" thing that is a strong part of Timbuk2's messaging, this bag isn't. It's got a "made 'somewhere else'" tag inside.

          Comments about Command Backpack:

This bag is overall very nice looking and practical bag.

couple of things that I would design the bag differently is:

          1. I wish there was some sort of grip pad on the bottom side of the bag, so it would stand up better and won't slide around.

          2. Because the bag doesn't have any wear pad/grip pad on the bottom, I hand the bag behind my chair. and this makes it hard to get the laptop out of the sleeve because the shoulder strap gets in the way.

            Comments about Command Backpack:

I have carried this bag for over three years and absolutely love it. My first one was well loved and started having a few seam issues which Timbuk2 customer service promptly replaced. I love the second one even more, the fabric is a perfect mix of form and function. I can travel for 3-5 days, with all of my work gear, toiletries and even a suit in this bag. Yet, it's not so big that I don't want to use it daily. I would be lost without this piece of gear, one my many Timbuk2 purchases, but by far and away my most favorite.
