Made in San Francisco is the heart and soul of our business and culture. Customers customize bags on timbuk2.com or in the Timbuk2 retail store, we cut and sewn them in our San Francisco factory, and ship them out within ten business days (whoosh that’s fast!). The result is one-of-a-kind products that are worn loud and proud for decades.
We love all our children, but we have a big family! In fact, we have more kids than we could ever produce in San Francisco, or anywhere in America. To meet the crazy demand for our product and include technical features like welded seams and molded back panels, we manufacture our non-custom products in Asia. This blend of at-home and abroad manufacturing enables us to meet the consumer, product, and market demands required to compete globally and deliver products we believe in at prices our customers can afford.
Every morning at 8 am, our San Francisco factory springs to life. Our incredibly skilled manufacturing team of 14 work together to make hundreds of last-a-lifetime bags a day in outrageous color combinations that our customers select. Each custom bag is made to order and ships within two business days; many ship same day. Additionally, the team makes branded bags for companies and organizations who’ve chosen Timbuk2 to stoke themselves out. Each member on our factory team is cross-trained and can work on many machine in our factory; no two days are the same.
Many American companies find it impossible to make things in America. Skill, machinery, and scale can be hard to find and labor costs and expectations of work/life balance can be prohibitively expensive. This context makes us feel particularly proud, if not a bit charmed, to have continuously manufactured in America, in an American city, more than 20 years.

Tasindo is a mid-sized factory located in the Jakarta metro area in Indonesia. Timbuk2′s development team has personally known Tasindo’s owner and leadership for more than 15 years. Tasindo’s expertise is in bag manufacturing and they consistently produce quality work. Home to the world’s fourth largest population and a growing manufacturing sector, Indonesia is an exciting place to be.
Daichi is a small factory just outside Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. A second generation family owned and operated factory, the Daichi team is incredibly organized and has a deep sense of responsibility for their customers and team. Daichi’s sewers are extremely skilled and their work is of the highest quality. Daichi works with other small companies like Timbuk2 and we intend to grow together.

The Timbuk2 Compliance Team is tasked with upholding the social and environmental ethics of Timbuk2 with respect to manufacturing.
