Comments about Custom Classic Messenger Bag:

Let me start by saying I got the medium, so many reviews don't mention the size. Done

My first custom was size small and although I am not a large woman I found it a tad bit too small. Must be all the large books I read and my extra tall water bottle. Anyway, I bought 2 medium bags on the cheap after and realized that was the perfect size for me. I had a 2013 and a 2014. I like things about both, but in the end the side water bottle pockets in the 2014 won my heart (ps I don't use them for water bottle). But I longed for the custom lining. My old custom had the purple with polka dots and I loved it. This time I went for the gray chevron. So gorgeous. TDF.

So I use my bag as my life bag. It goes every where with me. I have a small crossbody bag that I toss in as my purse, if I need to run into a store or for going out to dinner, etc. In my bag almost daily I carry my purse, water bottle, book, papers (got to have the divider), sun block, utensils (for eating at work), coupon book, pouch with essentials, small flash light, pens and a small notebook. I often also carry food and my camera.

What I love about the medium is, when I go to work it is big enough to toss a jacket in, my lunch or whatever I need. I don't need 2 bags. But when I have less stuff the bag still looks great.

Since I am often just carrying from the car to home or work, I usually just toss it over one shoulder.

So happy with my purchase. Converting one woman at a time, to Timbuk2, up here.

Comments about Custom Classic Messenger Bag:

I bought an almost identical bag about 4 years ago from Timbuk2 -- this is a replacement. I'm shocked as to how much less good my new bag is. The pockets are way smaller (it's a LARGE size bag and they now use the same set of zippered pockets as on a SMALL bag) and as such it's massively inconvenient for my use. The new shoulder strap is much thinner and less substantial: and so it digs into your neck more. Overall material quality just FEELS less good.

Honestly, it's time to move along from Timbuk2. They've gone like every other successful manufacturer: lower margins and lower quality. I won't be recommending them anymore.

It's my own fault for ordering an XS. I wanted it to hold my camcorder and accessories. It just about does that but it's hard to really grasp how small the bag is without seeing it in the flesh. I think that the strap is too narrow but apart from that it's a good bag.

Comments about Custom Classic Messenger Bag:

The product is excellent, it is a very pretty bag that is built tough. There are plenty of compartments to use... in fact every time I decided I wanted to add something to my kit and thought "hmm if I only had one more pocket"... I then found a new pocket I hadn't seen before. Its a great bag and very sharp... for me its sort of a lifestyle bag/briefcase/purse and it does work great for that.

There is however room for improvement. I think that the laptop compartment should be moved to the absolute back most section of the bag thus freeing all that space in the front. I never use the space between the laptop compartment and the back of the bag because its just awkward for anything other than paperwork... but there are other places that paperwork should go, it's just wasted space.

I would also like to see the velcro on the back of the laptop retaining strap be extended the full length of the strap so you can use it to secure smaller laptops in the sleeve. Right now it is basically not adjustable because there is just a tiny square of velcro which means it only straps down to 1 size and that size doesn't make any sense for any notebook that would fit in this bag. I consider this a pretty major design failure, my little Macbook Air 11 just flops around inside of the laptop compartment... it is in no way secure all because timbuk2 was cheap with their use of velcro (seriously just make the velcro the entire length of that strap, it would cost you an extra 20 cents).

There also need to and option to add a plastic plate to the bottom of the bag to make it stand upright when you set it down. It could be internal and not visible, just something to add rigidity to the base.

Finally it would be nice if you could sell other compartmentalized inserts for these bags other than the camera case insert... I would like to see a more universal padded insert that can be used for a wide range of things.

Comments about Custom Classic Messenger Bag:

          - After I got my bag, I noticed that the logo on the front side of it already has threads sticking out it. That was disappointing.
          - There is no shoulder pad by default on the strap, so carrying it with a bunch of stuff inside the bag is REALLY uncomfortable
          - The bag is priced WAY to expensive. For this price I expected to see much more features and much better quality.

Comments about Custom Classic Messenger Bag:

I love Timbuk2 bags and I have been a customer since 2004. So I was so excited to get to design my own custom bag. I have waited to review the bag until I used it for awhile. So I received the bag in late February and it is now late June. My custom classic small black messenger bag is made with 3 panels of woven reflective black flaps. These are very durable and show no signs of wear yet knock on wood and I use this bag daily as my briefcase to and from work. I love the top briefcase handle. It has some padding so it is comfortable. You just have to be sure your bag is secure before grabbing the handle or your bag will become unstable and some contents may fall out if you only grab the handle quickly. It is like the bag t-bones if you grab it only by the briefcase handle without having the front securely velcroed of snapped in place. I love the look of the reflective black panels. They look great during the day and during the night. No complaints with those choices.

The other thing I LOVE about this bag is the amount of pockets outside and inside. There is just amazing design and thoughtfulness about how you would use your bag to store your phone or wallet for quick access. So kudos Timbuk2 for those great designs features.

If I had to do it all over again would I recommend this bag? I would reluctantly say yes, but two things I absolutely cannot stand are:

          1) The premium silver reflective binding made from glass beads is NOT DURABLE. I even called and inquired about the durability of this binder several times This may be considered a premium binding, BUT it is NOT a good binder if you want your bag to look good for a couple years. It shows signs of wear easy where you fold the bag over and it shows immediate signs of wear from the first week of use if it brushes up against you or any surface. The binder is just getting progressively worse with the silver wearing off. It is really beginning to look awful and only after 6 months. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH MAKING THIS DECISION. Note that I even called in several times to Timbuk2 to inquire about this binding's durability and was assured that it was meant to last long term and be reflective. No one mentioned that it would rub off so easily. I am attaching pics of how much has rubbed off. Note that I wear a suit to and from work and I am not a biker. So my bag gets very gently used.

          2) The lock on the strap to keep its length secure does not work 100% of the time. Sometimes the strap lock will come undone for no reason. Then I have to adjust the strap and lock it back into place. I have never experienced this issue with my previous Timbuk2 bags so I find this very frustrating. Again, this seems to be getting progressively worse the longer I have the bag. I wear my bag over my left shoulder across my body because I am right handed. Often when I take off my bag when I get to my car the buckle will be undone and the strap will be unsecure.

So again, do I love Timbuk2...YES. Do I love everything about this bag...NO. I do recommend this bag just as long as you DO NOT ORDER THE PREMIUM REFLECTIVE SILVER BINDING and you do not get a bag that has a strap lock that has a mind of its own and stays locked at times and other times not so much.
