Great replacement for default strap pad

    Comments about Deluxe Strap Pad:

I bought this pad with a Commute messenger bag to replace the default pad that came with the bag. It was soon obvious that this was a wise decision. The default pad is wrapped in the same exterior nylon and isn't as wide, whereas this pad has a side with grippy fabric that is meant to stay put when you are wearing the bag. The weight of the bag is distributed very well and makes the bag comfortable to carry. No complaints and would definitely buy it again.

      Comments about Deluxe Strap Pad:

I'm a huge fan of Timbuk2 bags and finally went all out to customize a bag. I'm support a very busy design practice and am essentially on call at all times, so having a strong, roomy bag with good carrying support is vital, as I am often carrying two laptops, an iPad, all kinds of cables and chargers, notebooks, and files. The Deluxe Strap Pad spans over your shoulder both in front and back so that even fully loaded, I never feel the bag strap digging into me. The Strap Pad helps distribute the weight and gives the bag a really solid balance, and it stays in place, which has been a been compalint of mine with other strap pads on other bags. The Deluxe Strap Pad is very stiff right out of the package, but it breaks in quickly. I will never buy another bag without one!

          Comments about Deluxe Strap Pad:

To be honest I was quite happy with the original shoulder pad that came with my medium classic messenger, but because I was ordering a snoop camera insert I thought I'd give this a try as it was inexpensive. It is more comfortable than the original and it grips better. I'm sure the loops will come in useful although I haven't used them yet.

            Comments about Deluxe Strap Pad:

Just spent two back to back weeks on business trips. Used the bag as a trend setter briefcase attached to my roller bag on the east coast. Followed it up with a 4 day business trip to the west coast. My bag was my ONLY bag for clothing and computer! It has more capacity than I could have imagined. The deluxe strap made sure my shoulders didn't suffer.

                Comments about Deluxe Strap Pad:

The deluxe strap adds quite a bit of comfort to a messenger bag. I have a medium bag and use with with the snoop insert for a camera bag. The deluxe strap makes the bag a little easier on long days. Sometimes the bag is still uncomfortable on really long days when the bag is loaded up, but the deluxe strap definitely helps.

The strap sometimes feels a little too wide, but it's not terribly bulky and the pros definitely out weight this little con.

                Comments about Deluxe Strap Pad:

I own several Timbuk2 bike messenger bags and, while they're wonderful bags for riders, the strap pads that came with them are terrible: stiff, uncomfortable and slippery. I removed them and rode sans pad. However, riding with a heavy load is tough on the shoulder and so I chanced it with the Timbuk2 Deluxe Strap Pad. What a pleasant surprise! This pad is much wider than the strap, distributing the load across a larger area of the shoulder, flexible so it molds to your body shape and well padded. I love the attachment loops for hanging accessories, e.g., Shagg Bag, or dangling a pair of sunglasses. Basically Timbuk2 designers gave this one some serious thought and got it right. Like others have said, all Timbuk2 messengers should ship with this pad.

The Timbuk2 Deluxe Strap Pad, like Timbuk2 Messenger Bags, is carefully engineered to be worn sling style across the chest: wide end of the pad wraps around the shoulder while the narrow section molds perfectly to the chest. The pad shape is too long and asymmetrical for single shoulder use (purse style), biting into the top of the shoulder and easily slipping off. Off the shoulder users need a smaller and more grippy pad, e.g., a neoprene or rubber-like backed design.

There are a couple minor gotchas, at least for my taste. TIMBUK2 is emblazon on the pad and is a bit of an eyesore but, since it is a cloth label, can be easily removed with a button hole cutter (or use a black Sharpie on it!). Worse, there is an ugly strip of reflective tape/fabric in the center of the pad. I suppose it's a good safety feature for bikers but I prefer a strap that blends rather than calls attention to itself. Unfortunately, the reflective tape/fabric can't be removed without also removing the accessory attachment loops.

Basically I'm well stroked with this pad. A lot of thought went into optimizing this design for bikers riding with a bag sling style. I just bought another Deluxe Strap Pad for my Timbuk2 Snoop Camera bag. I'm be riding and shooting in style and comfort!

                Comments about Deluxe Strap Pad:

I use this pad with my medium classic messenger bag. I love the padding it has and the loops to attach extras too. The only thing that I think would make this better is if the material on the bottom of the pad was some type of non-slip material. When wearing the bad over one shoulder, not across the chest, the pad slides of rather easily.
