Comments about Especial Cuatro Cycling Backpack 2014:

Used (and still currently using) this bag for my 2 month trip to Italy. I checked in my bicycle and was forced to pack everything I needed into this bag. I managed to fit in

- Cycling shoes
- 10 days of clothes (it's summer - just remember that)
- 3 sets of cycling kit
- Laptop
- Travel documents
- Phone, laptop charger
- Bicycle tools
- Extra tape for the bike box
- My helmet
- Book (Atlas Shrugged - read it)
- Selection of medicine
- Small digital camera

And I still strapped my jacket on the outside.

Flew with my bag as handluggage no issues. The bag is strong, takes a huge amount of stuff, sits decently comfortably (still unsure how it'll feel after riding for 2+ hours).

I just wish it had a laptop compartment so I could separate my lappie from everything else.

Comments about Especial Cuatro Cycling Backpack 2014:

The stitching on a corner reflector tab is coming loose, but it does not affect the usefulness and awesomeness of this bag. Still would like more internal pockets and more reflector panels but that is just me. It also slightly blocks my peripheral vision when looking over my shoulder but nothing an adjustment can't fix. I'm 6'0" with wide shoulders and the bag still looks big on me but that isn't a problem. When you have to carry a lot of stuff but dont want all of the weight on one shoulder like a normal messenger, get this bag!

Comments about Especial Cuatro Cycling Backpack 2014:

I use it as my everyday bag for everything, and I cycle as my main mode of transport, regardless of weather.

*WARNING: LONG REVIEW.*

TL;DR - I'd prefer it to be narrower (doesn't extend past my shoulders so much) in return for it to be deeper? (extends behind me more). I'd prefer it to have more pockets (how 'bout those awesome organisers from the messenger bags?) and for the u-lock pocket/fixture to be in the middle, instead of to the side (trivial point though).
I like its weatherproofing, side zip pockets (those right against your back when worn), comfort, shoulder strap loops (for carabiner attachment - would prefer they not be elastic though) and capacity.

Detailed elaboration:

Cons first:
It really has not enough pockets, especially for stuff that isn't flat.
Main compartment keeps my clothes, water bottles, shoes, etc. Secondary pocket keeps my rain jacket, spares box (for fixing flats) and miscellaneous small items, which fills it. Any other miscellaneous items have to jostle with the rest of the stuff in the main compartment. Not fun rummaging in there for small items.

"Roomy" AND "too small"?
The main compartment tapers downward - it's roomier on top, smaller at the bottom. It fits the stuff I've needed to carry so far, without requriring expansion, hence "roomy".
The tapering though, coupled with the fact that it's a flap design, and the fact that the expansion increases the volume from the top as well, means that bulky stuff may not be fully protected from the rain, especially from the sides. Hence, "too small".

Too wide - I'm a small guy: 172 cm, 60 kg (5'7, 132lb) - the bag is wider than me (torso and arms), and gets caught on things near spaces that I normally could walk through. Took a bit of getting used to. Check the dimensions if this is important to you.
Oh, and it partially blocks my over-the-shoulder view of traffic, especially when in the drops. I have to adjust my body positioning slightly when looking, but have since gotten used to it. YMMV.

U-lock pocket - it doesn't fit my lock comfortably (Masterlock 8195), and the fact that it's at the side means the weight distribution is uneven. Not crucial though, just mildly annoying occasionally.

"Somewhat heavy" - was my first impression when I received it, i.e. not really featherweight. Doesn't bother me though, but weight weenies might want to take note. Doesn't feel heavy at all when worn though.

The pros speak for themselves, I think. The strongest pro so far is that I don't have to worry about my stuff getting wet anymore, when riding. Have ridden through two heavy rainstorms (I'm in the tropics), kept everything dry.

The way it sits is comfortable also. I didn't remove the stiff internal backing.

The hip belt is ok. Doesn't feel like it's there, but seems to do its job. Haven't used the sternum strap, nor the other miscellaneous straps, so can't comment on those.

Comments about Especial Cuatro Cycling Backpack 2014:

I am a courier and use this every day. My favorite thing about the bag is the pocket right against my back... I guess it would be called a document pocket. It is great as the majority of my deliveries are envelopes and I don't need to take my bag on and off at every stop. I also like that it is lightweight material, and I feel somewhat fashionable wearing it. However I am disapointed to say that I have found more downsides to the bag than upsides. I find the straps that link the bottom to the flap are to short and the bag should have strap extenders included. I find most of the other straps on the side to be useless. Also the lack of pockets I was dissapointed with. Normally I carry around a sketchbook with pens, as well as tools and I had to buy additional pouches to put in the main compartment to keep these thing seperated from my work gear. The side pockets is what I'm most disapointed about. I put some tools in there and on 2 occasions I have lost tools out of the pocket. I have also lost 2 water bottles out of the pocket which I believe it was designed for. I don't know what would make it better. Maybe velcro like on the lock side but on the actual pocket so if one is to put small items In there, that they don't fall out. So now I have to keep more of my spare items in the main compartment which leaves even less room for my packages. I was initially excited for having a backpack, but I am sad I feel I have to keep my chrome messenger bag just in case this bag doesn't do the trick for me. For the price I payed for it I am a little disapointed. I would not recomend this bag to anyone for its pitfalls however it makes up for it with the quality of the actual bag and wicked warrenty policy. I hope that something can be done about my dissapointment, as I spent the time to write a review and I feel my time Is valuable.

Comments about Especial Cuatro Cycling Backpack 2014:

First, this bag is what I've come to expect from Timbuk2. Being an engineer for textiles, and seeing many cut and sew operations around the US, this bag is very well made. I'll add that I have a 14 year old bag from Timbuk2 that is still very much functional, and has had ZERO issues in regards to construction, materials, and overall quality of the manufacturing, and how well it has held up over the years.

I use this bag to commute with, and while I can laud its size, its build, and almost everything about it, for some reason, it doesn't fit my person well. Let me explain.

I have wider shoulders, and a broad chest. I can't get this bag to sit comfortably on my bike while riding to and from work. I have used it to travel to races, and for short work trips, and again, it's awesome. In this case, it's me, NOT THE BAG (which is why I give it 4 stars). I've tried many different ways of cinching it to me while commuting, and just can't get it comfortable.

That said. If you are looking for a bag with a wide range of uses, this can be it.

Comments about Especial Cuatro Cycling Backpack 2014:

I use this backpack everyday for commuting to work. It has enough room for my rain gear, computer, change of clothes and lunch with plenty of room to spare. It kept things inside dry even during some pretty heavy rains. One thing to note, I have a larger style U-Lock, and it does not fit in the one side pocket. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I wish it had internal pockets for smaller things. That is a small complaint on an otherwise great backpack.

Comments about Especial Cuatro Cycling Backpack 2014:

Love the bag, the company, the brand.

I do commuting and utility trips around LA // in New York I commuted to work with all that I would need (laptop/extra clothes/groceries).

The one thing, in just an initial reaction to the bag, is that it does not have any sort of laptop/device divider in the main, interior. Admittedly, I could have seen that in the pictures, but since the word "laptop" was included somewhere in the description, I figured additional protection might be engineered in.

If you have a laptop, "naked" and thrown in the bag, it moves around and/or is subjected to whatever else you have in there (canned good? beer? tomato?).

Everything is a trade off, so I'm figuring TB2 might have been saving weight or keeping it simple. It's all about how you carry your device, and whether you wanted/have an additional case for it inside the bag.

Otherwise, great, sexy, very much expanding bag.

Lovin this bag!!!! Tons of room for groceries and work stuff. Comfortable even with heavy loads. Holding up great against the rain. The one issue I have had so far... the top of the bag is wide and cuts into your field of vision when looking behind you.....But with some adjusting not a big problem.
