Comments about Especial Cycling Messenger Bag:

I use the bag for commuting to work, so typically carry a change of clothes and my lunch, as well as my iPad or laptop. The bag is large enough to handle all of my items without becoming to bulky. It is firm enough to hold its shape well and is stable over my shoulder, even when low in the drops. Very waterproof, even in several downpours. I also toss the bag in one of my motorcycle panniers and routine trips in the car.

My only recommendation would be to have a carry handle on the top. There is a handle that is oddly placed a third of the way down the back and is not comfortable to use. There are also carry handles on the ends which are also awkward to use.

Comments about Especial Cycling Messenger Bag:

Many reviews already mention the good features that this bag has. I will focus more in the things that can be improved.

        Good things:

Well built. It looks cool. Magnetic buckles are awesome.

        Things to improve:

        1. Weight: This bag at 1.3-1.6 kg is rather in the heavy side of the spectrum. Take into account that normally the bike-oriented backpacks for road or mountain bike keep the weight under 1 Kg, and that in those models the weight is distributed in two shoulders. 300-600 gr of extra weight does not sound a lot, but on long commutes (bike or walking) it will make a difference. You will notice this weight penalty if you live in a hilly area or if your commute is long. I am still using my backpack for long commutes. If you sum the fact that this bag has a single strap and that all its load sits on a single shoulder the extra weight makes a big difference. Is too heavy for the 15-24 Liters capacity it offers. Even the Especial Medio Cycling Laptop Backpack from timbuk2 that has 30 liters capacity is only 1 kg and this weigh is distributed in two shoulders. I like this bag and I am planning to do some modifications to cut down at least 300 grams of material from it.

        2. Shape: The rear part of this bag, the one in contact with your back, is very stiff and has a square shape. Due to this shape and the hardness of the material, one of the corners may poke your back. Specially if you are a short person, one of the corners may poke your back where your bottoms begins.

        3. Napoleon Pocket: The zippers of the napoleon pockets are small. I am a person with small hands and despite this fact I still have problems to access to those pockets. The lateral sides of this messenger bag have a hard panel within the fabrics(you can not see it in the pics and is not described anywhere) that gets in the way of the napoleon pockets when you try to pull things out of them.

        4. Reflective material: The reflective material sounds like a great thing to have. But I still think that they are not localise in the right position. When you are on the bike the side that normally points towards the floor when you are standing, is the side that will face the cars. Despite this fact, there is not reflective material in this position. I am planning to add some in the bottom of this bag. On the other hand some reflective material in this bag will never points toward the cars when you are on the bike and therefore is useless.

        5. Side panels. The side panels have a hard panel within the fabrics. This is annoying because: i). add extra weight to the bag. ii). they go in the way with the napoleon pockets. iii). it does not allow you to compress completely the bag using the straps.

Dont get me wrong, I still think this bag is very good and I will still recommend it, if you dont mind the extra weight. I am sure timbuk2 will improve all those issues in the second generation of this bag.

Comments about Especial Cycling Messenger Bag:

Pros: Extremely well made and exceptionally good-looking. Makes cycling even more fun, even when carrying a full load. Shoulder strap is the most comfortable of any type of bag or luggage I've ever used. This bag was clearly designed by people who like to ride fast bikes in cities.

The medium size I got holds an awful lot, awfully well.
        I love this bag.

Cons: U-Lock strap has become stretched out after a month of use. Quick-access pockets are useful, but cannot really be accessed quickly.

Comments about Especial Cycling Messenger Bag:

I travel 1-2 times per month and carry a mini-home office in my bag. This bag is roomy for all my cables, drives, 17" Precision workstation, and accessories. Love the fact that it's waterproof as I just spent 2 weeks traveling across Europe. I got soaked by my gear remained dry!

Only downside: The strap is too small for tall people. I'm 6'4" and spent a fair amount of time looking to buy an alternate strap.

Minor nuisance: I wish there were more compartments. I especially missed having a rear compartment to access when the bag is fully zipped. I assumed that was standard after the two other bags I bought. No big deal, but with passports and plane tickets I really wished there were compartments in the back.

          But I love this bag!

I hesitated to get this bag, essentially because of cost and the marketing intimating that you have to be a serious commuter to warrant the purchase. Now that I have it, I would flip that rationale. Who doesn't need a truly waterproof, incredibly comfortable, easily adjustable bag with a lifetime warranty that is well laid out with tons of pockets and can hold a lot of stuff including the largest laptops? This bag has become my friend. I take it everywhere. I'm close to naming it. If you carry a bag daily and have the potential to get wet some day, you deserve this bag.

Comments about Especial Cycling Messenger Bag:

I needed a messenger for commuting on my bike to and from work, and wanted something stylish and durable. Little did I know that it would prove itself during a week when I didn't bike at all.

A few weeks ago, I took a trip to Vancouver and Seattle. I intended to pack light, and so brought only this bag and a gym duffel for clothes. This bag slid through airport security and carry-on storage like a pro; it held everything I needed without tiring or chafing, and its side handles proved very helpful in tight corners. The quick release and secure tab on the strap saved lots of time, and the napoleon pockets let me grab my documents quickly without taking off the bag.

One of my favorite things to do in a new city is walk it: choose two points and walk between them, taking in the city as I go. During this trip, though, it rained. Every. Day. I think there was a grand total of 7 hours sunlight that entire trip. This bag, in addition to being light and slim, did not let in a drop of moisture. In fact, the *only* water to get into the bag was from my wet hands when I rummaged around for aspirin or a lozenge. (I fought a cold the entire trip. Great timing, eh?)

Of course, it more than proves its worth on a bike and for everyday usage. It can hold all my bike gear and more, and has several spots to attach the helmet when not riding. On the bike, it stays put and leaves enough air for my back to breathe. I never have to think about it.

The only caveats I can think of have to do with the size I got (the smaller size) and the adjustment velcro. The strap is comfortable but short; trying to take it off while wearing a helmet gets tricky, and even without a helmet, if the bag is full it can be a tight fit on and off. The straps are fully adjustable, but the velcro on the side opposite where the strap padding attaches collects a bit of lint. It's just the nature of velcro against some fabrics. If you're meticulous about how your bag appears, this might bug you, but I'm not that fussy about my possessions.

This bag suits me, both practically and for the image I like to project. I might get the larger size if I had to do it over again, but overall, no complaints about the one I got.

Simply put, this is the best cycling bag you can buy. Very well thought out features like the side pocket to quickly access keys, phone or something like that. The adjustable strap that you can adjust with just one hand is great !
In size M enough room and compartments to put in everything you need.
Plus, the material, for the short time I used it, seems very (very) durable.
