Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

This bag is good for heavy loads and will hold more than you think. I can fit about $100 worth of groceries in this bag. It's tough and I'm not worried about my stuff getting wet when I ride in the rain. The smaller pocket is tight when the bag is full

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

Great ruck sack style backpack that can just about hold anything you need. I use it every day to commute to work either on foot or on my motorcycle. I love that it can expand almost infinitely to fit whatever I might need to haul. The construction is rock solid and it is indeed very waterproof. The only things I don't like about this backpack are:

- The design of water bottle/ulock pocket: When the backpack is not full, the water bottle pocket pretty much becomes useless because there's not enough tension to keep anything in with confidence.
- The chest strap that comes with it: The chest strap that comes with this backpack also has a really weak button which tends to pop off under load, I lost the chest strap within a month of owning this backpack and apparently this is pretty common (my roommate also lost his chest strap due to the same reason). I went to my nearest Timbuk2 store and the sales associate told me that they often had problems with the back chest strap popping off and getting lost, and suggested I get the grey chest strap which has a much more secure connection, I have not had any issues with the grey chest strap thus far.

Other than the two this backpack is absolutely

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

This backpack goes everywhere with me. I've been using it nearly every day for four months now, and it has maintained it's durability and usefulness beautifully. It consistently keeps all belongings dry during regular downpours, and can take some rough handling (hiking, air travel, regular commuting) while still looking clean and crisp. Rarely can the words "weatherproof" and "stylish" be used simultaneously to describe a backpack, but this one manages to hold its own.

Favorite features include the roll-top closure for flexibility in size, and the side access zipper, so that I don't always need to fiddle with the roll-top. The stash pocket on the back panel is perfect for a passport and discreet enough to store some extra cash.

The laptop compartment could be easier to access - it's a great feature but in order to get to the laptop I usually have to unroll the top and dig through stuff in the main compartment. Not a huge inconvenience, but also not very TSA friendly. Regardless, this backpack is excellent for traveling due to its durability and functionality.

My one major complaint is that the advertised weight on the site is incorrect - it's listed as 1kg or 2.2lbs. In reality, this pack is more than twice as heavy - about 5lbs. People should know what they're getting. I notified customer service several months ago to correct the listed weight, but it hasn't happened yet.

Despite being slightly hefty it's not too bulky, and so far I've gotten more mileage out of this bag than any other I've owned.

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

I am a daily bike commuter - I take CalTrain and ride 12 miles each day to and from work. I use this bag because even if I am caught in a downpour me laptop and clothes will remain dry. I am a fan of this pack - it fits great, feels awesome when I am riding and holds everything I need. I am very confident that this pack will keep my things as I want them. My only complaint is that ease of access to my laptop. I have to un buckle, un velcro, and roll, move clothes to pull my laptop out. I wish there was a back or a special side entry point so I can easily slip in and out my laptop without messing with the bags contents. Othersie great product!

        I ride, I hike.
If this backpack had an expandable mesh back panel, keeping the big outer closed pocket, as well, this pack would be the only backpack I need. I put the wet tarp, or, or wet tarp-tent inside the mesh panel on the outside of a backpack.
Timbuk2 might consider backpackers like this 40-liter pack. I know I like it, tres especial.

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

After Timbuk2 started having their bags made overseas, the quality has gone down. I had this bag for 2 months before it started falling apart and literally coming apart at the seams. I used it for commuting and was not too rough with it so I expected it to last much longer. The customer service team has been great with getting it repaired (it took forever though), but from here on out, unless I buy a custom bag that is still made in the US, I won't be buying Timbuk2 again. Which makes me super sad... :(

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

I've had the bag for more than 3 months, and have been carrying it every day as I would any backpack. My one true complaint is that I would like to keep the waist straps attached to the bag, but they keep unfolding from their elastic-band-keepers and they become a minor nuisance when not in use and dragging across my rear and hamstrings. Other bags handle the hip/waist straps better. I don't want to take them off because I will use them from time to time and like any take-off item, I wouldn't have them when I wanted them.

The second, and far more minor, improvement I would make is to make the side water-bottle pocket and U-lock combo a little deeper to better secure tall water bottles.

Another improvement I would make is to make the side zipper at an angle that would permit access to the laptop pocket, not to the general main pocket as the current design is laid out.

The Roll-top I thought would be a moderately annoying feature, but I've actually found that I like it and the quality of the velcro on the rolls allows me to roll it up quickly and without hassle. The expansion zippers seem strong and have seen a little use.

The 40L size is great, still airline overhead likely, and it permits me to travel with a weekend's worth of clothes… 32-35L bags are a really nasty and tight fit to get a pair of men's 12 running/riding shoes with the same clothing set.

Pricey but quality, but not perfect, from a back-pack perfectionist with rather high standards. Its held up as well as any bag in its price range should - for the short duration I've owned it.
