Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

I got Especial Tres Cycling Backpack to replace an existing backpack I had. The main purpose for the upgrade is to carry more and waterproofing. I use this bag for school and work. My 15" laptop slides into perfectly without and issue. The side pouches hold my large 32oz. water bottle as well.

Being a commuter in the North Ease I tend to be out in pretty nasty weather regularly. It's caused me to get a lot of good weather gear. The one thing that I had always had difficulty finding though was a good waterproof backpack. This bag facilitated that need perfectly! Added bonus was it nearly doubled my carrying capacity from my previous bag.

With my job and remaining school I have to carry a laptop with me essentially all the time. Which would be fine if I drove into work and it was just a short walk from my car to the office. But take a train into the city. I have a good amount of walking from the train station to my office. If it's raining I'm trekking through it. My laptop can't get wet. This bag is perfect for that. The laptop compartment doesn't go to the bottom of the bag, not sure if that is intentional or not, but it's a great thing. If I am in a rush I will drop my laptop in my bag. It won't hit the floor which is perfect.

As much as I love this bad there are a few flaws. The one that is most annoying is it doesn't have enough pockets built in. Going off the name of the bag and how it's set up it seems more to be a bike messenger bag. I would guess that bike messengers would probably not need a lot of pockets in their line of work. Only just one large compartment to keep whatever they are carrying dry.

The bottle opener is in an awful place. I wish I could move it but the only way to do so would require me to either cut some material or remove stitches and replace them after it's out. Well last resort would be to use a bolt cutter to cut it off but I have reached that point yet. The bottle opener gets caught on my watch or on doors or hits me in the wrong spot while moving around. Does a cyclist need to be able to open a bottle while biking? It would be fine it was just located somewhere else other than the middle of the right shoulder strap.

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

The bag is huge. Use to carry work stuff (laptop, binders, notepads, etc) plus workout gear for the gym. Everything fits with room to spare at the top. Durability is good so far. Only minor issue encountered so far is that the velcro on the laptop sleeve in the bag has already come loose on 3/4 of the velcro. Looks like some additional stitching would solve the problem.

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

I got this bag because I needed a decent size bag that could hold my my laptop, a few books, binder, and clothes when I commute to work on my road bike. The price tag is definitely on the expensive side, but this is exactly what I needed to get around without entirely feeling like my bag was stuffed.

I'm a pretty big guy and this bag fit me perfectly. I even sometimes use this as my primary bag as its that comfortable when lugging around my items than using my North Face bag. It's been raining quite often in the Bay Area and I loved how this bag got nothing wet inside. All the straps that are used to secure the bag when your riding are removeable if you don't need them.

My only suggestion is that I would have liked to customize this bag like the others.

I love this backpack but have lost many items, broken bottles etc from the side pockets. Do not put glass containers because if you bend over slightly they will fall out and break. Side pockets should have some kindof sinch or just be a little tighter to actually keep things in them.

Got this backpack for my boyfriend as a christmas gift and he loves it. We live in Chicago and he rides his bike everywhere...he needed something lightweight and comfortable that could also fit everything he needs for a big day. I think on his most packed days he works at a research lab in the morning, then goes to work. On these days he is out and about for over 12 hours. He can fit his work clothes, a change of shoes, a water bottle, 3 full meals, folders, and other miscellaneous items with no probelm. The backpack is also very very water resistant due to its roll-top design.

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

I really wish I had this bag four years ago when I started getting serious about commuting. I got my first messenger bag from timbuk2 something like 10 years ago in middle school, and got another my first year of serious commuting as the school/laptop bag. But I had been using an old backpack for all of my groceries/laundry. Two years ago I moved to a small town and the lay out is not exactly bike friendly, so my round trip for groceries became 6 miles. I didn't realize just how uncomfortable my old bag had become until my first trip with this one after getting home from the parents. I literally wanted to start singing, I was so pleased and I'm not usually a particularly exuberant person.

Even before that trip (literally just got home that's how excited I was), I used the bag as my main carry on for the flight back from the parents, as well as for a bus trip to visit friends. It easily can hold enough clothing for a long trip, or in my case, my laptop, camera equipment, clothes, books, and about 400+ pages of academic articles. For groceries I was able to get my usual weeks worth with room to spare (!!!) and the weight distribution was so great I was able to really book it (making the grocery trip faster A+). I don't think I've ever been so happy about a bag, once again timbuk2 really showed me why I love them so much.

I know some people wish it had more pockets, but I really like the way the pockets are set up - maybe I'm a minimalist but for me too many pockets always just means I lose things or end up having a pocket knife when going through airport security unintentionally. Also, if you use the side zippers it can really compress things when need be.

This bag hits everything I want from a backpack, it can haul groceries, and it works great for traveling - and I can definitely see using it for school as well, which is amazing when you want to live life a little with a little less stuff.
