Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

Living in Berlin and basically moving arount only on my road bike, I was looking for a backpack that could replace my old messenger bag. As I'm carrying heavy and bulky loads quite often (eg my climbing gear, laptop, books, groceries etc.) I wanted a backpack that's comfortable (a quality which my messenger bag did not deliver sufficiently) and offers a really big main compartment. I spent quite a few months looking for the perfect bag and I think I've found it. The bag itself weighs pretty much but it's so comfy that I really don't mind even carrying it full with groceries or my daily load which includes my climbing gear (rope, harness, quickdraws) plus laptop, books, food and all the stuff I need to carry to work and back that easily totals something close to 8 kg. I really like the simple compartmentalisation of the bag which lets me access small things easily via the outer pockets without even putting the bag to the ground. And another bonus is that you can really vary the size of the bag: Basically it's shape is pretty big and people will notice you're carrying a big bag. But while only carrying small amounts of stuff, you can really reduce it to a pretty flat bag that equals a normal backpack using the zippers and straps. So since I got the bag three weeks ago, I basically carry it everywhere and very much enjoy the comfort of just picking up the bag with all my basic necessities (wallet, lock, keys etc.) standardly packed when I leave home instead of thinking about taking a bag or not and if yes, which one etc.

I took advantage of a 30% reduction, but unfortunately I had to pay customs duty for importing it to the EU which almost leveled the total amount to the original price. But I still think the bag offers great value for its price.

Basically exactly what a flute bag should be

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

I have been using a flute-specific bag for a couple of years to haul around my professional instrument. My erstwhile bag was insulated, which I discovered doesn't really do anything when the zipper leaks a ton of water onto hundreds of dollars of sheet music.

      I know this is weird.

So, I wanted a waterproof bag that was bike-friendly, reflective, straps onto my person at a few different points so it's not in danger of falling off, has many organizational pockets, and fits my flute without any awkward sticking-out of the end of the case. This bag is IT.

The only con, really, is that this bag is heavier than my previous leak-sack. It's also waterproof and awesome, so I don't actually mind. Also, since there are pockets, I can FIND things in the bag that I don't need for the day, and remove them so I'm not carrying extra weight.

My cats are also getting used to the sound of the velcro, so they are less terrified when I open my new, amazing bag.

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

This is the best cycling backpack on the market right now for commuter cyclists. We have tried a number of brands such as Mission Workshop, Chrome, and ILE. Finally, Timbuk2 came out with this model and it surpasses the others. We needed waterproof backpacks that look professional and allow us to do both serious work and cycle around the city, keeping our computers and other electronics safe from moisture, letting us get to a gym, a bar, a meeting, or go out into the countryside. We needed versatility and this bag can do it.

The size is just right, and the expansion is perfect for large loads of groceries. But when the bag is not expanded (most of the time) it's still a great, usable size. It's easy to cycle with and still maintain a view behind you and keep road awareness.

Generally the pockets are great, but there are drawbacks. First there are not really good water bottle pockets on the sides of the bag. These pockets would be enhanced by fitting them for nalgene size bottles. As it is, I'm not sure what goes in there. Furthermore, it would be nice to have a way to lack nalgenes into the pockets--ours popped out and broke on the cement, which wasn't a nice thing to happen during a long commute.

The organizer pockets inside are fantastic. The computer pocket is great.

The straps are just okay--a bit on the narrow side. It would be nice to have something more substantial that won't feel like it's cutting into you.

This is our current favorite "serious commuter" pack on the market. We use it for everything and strongly recommend it. If the shoulder straps were better and the side pockets for water bottles improved (hopefully with a lockdown strap for nalgene bottles) it would greatly improve the pack and make it near perfect for our needs.

This bag is good for heavy loads and will hold more than you think. I can fit about $100 worth of groceries in this bag. It's tough and I'm not worried about my stuff getting wet when I ride in the rain. The smaller pocket is tight when the bag is full

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

Great ruck sack style backpack that can just about hold anything you need. I use it every day to commute to work either on foot or on my motorcycle. I love that it can expand almost infinitely to fit whatever I might need to haul. The construction is rock solid and it is indeed very waterproof. The only things I don't like about this backpack are:

      - The design of water bottle/ulock pocket: When the backpack is not full, the water bottle pocket pretty much becomes useless because there's not enough tension to keep anything in with confidence.
      - The chest strap that comes with it: The chest strap that comes with this backpack also has a really weak button which tends to pop off under load, I lost the chest strap within a month of owning this backpack and apparently this is pretty common (my roommate also lost his chest strap due to the same reason). I went to my nearest Timbuk2 store and the sales associate told me that they often had problems with the back chest strap popping off and getting lost, and suggested I get the grey chest strap which has a much more secure connection, I have not had any issues with the grey chest strap thus far.

Other than the two this backpack is absolutely

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

This backpack goes everywhere with me. I've been using it nearly every day for four months now, and it has maintained it's durability and usefulness beautifully. It consistently keeps all belongings dry during regular downpours, and can take some rough handling (hiking, air travel, regular commuting) while still looking clean and crisp. Rarely can the words "weatherproof" and "stylish" be used simultaneously to describe a backpack, but this one manages to hold its own.

Favorite features include the roll-top closure for flexibility in size, and the side access zipper, so that I don't always need to fiddle with the roll-top. The stash pocket on the back panel is perfect for a passport and discreet enough to store some extra cash.

The laptop compartment could be easier to access - it's a great feature but in order to get to the laptop I usually have to unroll the top and dig through stuff in the main compartment. Not a huge inconvenience, but also not very TSA friendly. Regardless, this backpack is excellent for traveling due to its durability and functionality.

My one major complaint is that the advertised weight on the site is incorrect - it's listed as 1kg or 2.2lbs. In reality, this pack is more than twice as heavy - about 5lbs. People should know what they're getting. I notified customer service several months ago to correct the listed weight, but it hasn't happened yet.

Despite being slightly hefty it's not too bulky, and so far I've gotten more mileage out of this bag than any other I've owned.

Comments about Especial Tres Cycling Backpack:

I am a daily bike commuter - I take CalTrain and ride 12 miles each day to and from work. I use this bag because even if I am caught in a downpour me laptop and clothes will remain dry. I am a fan of this pack - it fits great, feels awesome when I am riding and holds everything I need. I am very confident that this pack will keep my things as I want them. My only complaint is that ease of access to my laptop. I have to un buckle, un velcro, and roll, move clothes to pull my laptop out. I wish there was a back or a special side entry point so I can easily slip in and out my laptop without messing with the bags contents. Othersie great product!
