Comments about Especial Vuelo Cycling Laptop Backpack:

All in all a VERY well executed pack. If there was a key holder...like a string with a clip, and a smaller pocket near the top for some minor things so you don't have to dig to the bottom of your pack for the smaller items, this would be PERFECT.....right now its about 90% perfect which places it well above almost every pack out there for daily commutes. Oh...and the fact my U-lock and 2ndary cable lock fits on each side pouch really a blessing.

Comments about Especial Vuelo Cycling Laptop Backpack:

I'm an undergraduate student without a vehicle, so I commute exclusively by bike and occasional walking. In researching backpacks, I was looking for a bag that was waterproof, compact, lightweight, and most importantly, comfortable. This bag meets those needs.

I've made it from class to home (about a mile and a half commute) in torrential downpour using this bag without a problem. Meanwhile, other friends had soaked notebooks and broken phones due to the rain.

I am very pleased with the fit and weight-distribution of the Especial Vuelo. The arched back frame is shaped to create breathing space between your back and the bag, keeping the user cool and preventing sweating during heavy use. The dense foam straps felt strange on my shoulders at first, but pretty soon I got used to it and it's no longer an issue (I've had this bag for 10 months). It's so compact I barely notice I'm wearing the bag sometimes. I removed the optional waist and sternum straps as I felt them to be unnecessary for daily use (they might be better suited for hiking/backpacking).

The main pouch is quite large, making it versatile for many different uses. For school, the laptop pouch securely fits my 13" HP laptop while textbooks, folders, and even my bike helmet can be stored in the main pouch at the same time. The blue interior is not only stylish, but makes it very easy to see the contents of my bag when full. In addition to school use, I've taken this bag on week-long adventures, as well as weekend camping and canoeing trips. I can fit 5 days of clothes rolled up, a heavy picnic blanket, and extra food storage in these cases. Attach a sleeping bag and inflatable pad and you've got a nice backpacking pack.

The front zipper pocket is nice for accessing small/ medium items such as iPad 2, Nook HD, laptop charging cord, and a journal - most of which can be accessed quickly via the side zipper - but the small opening makes it difficult to access the iPad without opening the top flap. An iPad mini would be great in this case.

The two exterior water bottle pockets are great for holding my water bottle or 16oz coffee thermos on-the-go. They fit snugly and are placed nicely so I don't have to take the bag completely off my back to use them. I also sometimes use the second exterior pouch to hold my wallet and phone.

As others have mentioned, my one complaint is the lack of small storage organization. A single side pocket to hold my phone and charging cables, or an appropriate pens/pencil pouch would have been an excellent addition to this bag. But this in and of itself would not stop me from recommending this bag. Knowing what I know now I would still make this purchase again against other brands and other timbuk2 commuter bags. It is an all-around workhorse that can handle whatever I put it up against.

Comments about Especial Vuelo Cycling Laptop Backpack:

I bought this bag after starting to commute to SF for work. I wanted something that I could fit everything I could possibly imagine in it for a day at work (and whatever I would do before and after as well). I like the overall look of the bag, but it really lacks in functionality.

The main pocket is just one giant pocket with a sort of smallish laptop sleeve which doesn't comfortably fit my laptop. There are no other partitions inside of the main compartment which could have been nice for smaller things that you don't want to slip all the way to the bottom. As someone else mentioned, you have to jam stuff down to the bottom and narrowly stack stuff on top making access to the bottom a struggle. It would be much nicer if it had a second access zipper at the bottom to get those items out.

The front pocket is really annoying to me. It has a side zipper (which in itself is annoying because it's very hard to get stuff in and out when the main pocket is full) and also a top zipper (which I literally never use because it's entirely pointless). The smaller pockets on the inside of the front are pretty useless too. You have to jam things in and out of the pocket and kind of stack otherwise the bag gets too fat. There really aren't any other pockets other than the side water bottle pockets.

I will say that the bag is very comfortable. I like the straps and the back paneling. I also like that the bag is very reflective now that I am starting to commute to work by bike. It seems very sturdy and waterproof although I haven't used it in any substantial rain yet.

Comments about Especial Vuelo Cycling Laptop Backpack:

This backpack is wonderful, I was initially afraid due to the almost non-existent reviews for it. I bought it anyway and I must say that it's wonderful. I bike to school and it's great, I've gotten comments saying that it's great visibility. It's a really slim and tall backpack rather than bulky and you really feel it. The padding on your back feels great, odd at first but are almost non-existent after a while. The only two things I can see against it are that there's not much organization inside if you need that and also there's a bit of wear along the flap liner due to using it as a rolltop and having the velcro against it a lot.

Overall it's a great backpack that I would recommend to anyone who wants something sleek, thin, and stylish.

Comments about Especial Vuelo Cycling Laptop Backpack:

I am a graduate student and essentially live out of this bag every day as I commute to and from campus. I exclusively use my bicycle, so I am particulary grateful for the bag's cycle-friendly design. It is astonishingly comfortable while cycling, with lots of air ciculation, and best of all, weight redistribution. Even loaded down with books it miraculously carries the weight in such a way that I hardly feel them. I had been having trouble with my neck and shoulders using my old messenger bag, but those problems have disappeared since I started using the Vuelo.
I love that it has a large, bright reflective feature to help me keep the cars away. Thanks to the California drought I have yet to test this bag in rain but based on the other customer reviews and on the feel of the bag I am confident it will keep my laptop and my papers nice and dry when I do face a downpour.

My one complaint is one that others seem to also share. Namely, there are not enough pockets. The separate, blue-lined zippered pocket with the side access is not enough. I wind up putting all sorts of little things in there and all of it gets lost in a big messy tangle. Arguably I could invest in some separate containers to keep my pens, phones, wallet, headphones, pocket diary, gum, etc., neatly segregated but I am not that kind of person. A little structural encouragement to help me stay organized would have been well-appreciated. Nonetheless this bag is a hands down the nicest bag I've ever owned. I love it!

Comments about Especial Vuelo Cycling Laptop Backpack:

After 8 years with a messenger bag, I decided to switch to a back pack for more versatility when I'm off my bike, walking around town or while traveling. I was looking for something small enough to carry daily, but big enough for overnight trips, shopping runs, and to bring home packages from work.

I was attracted to the Vuelo mainly because the flap style opening allows easy, on-the-go access to the main compartment without having to take the the bag all the way off. The side access zipper to the front pocket and side pockets offer similar quick access. Additionally, the light blue interior made it easy to find things int he bottom of the bag. The gap in the back padding helped keep my back from getting as sweaty as I would with other backpacks (an issue I never really encounter with my messenger bag). Finally, the reflective accents were another bonus for riding at night.

On the down side, I found the bag uncomfortable, lacked useful organization, and didn't have the extra capacity to completely replace my messenger.

First, the shoulder straps were too close for my build and would either pinch my neck or force me to wear the bag too low on my back. This was particularly problematic while riding since the straps would dig into my neck if I wore the straps tightly, or the bag would shift around if I wore them loosely. I also found the straps to be too stiff with foam so they would rest with only the edge on my chest (instead of laying flat).

Next, the organization sleeve in the front pocket is too far down to be useful when accessing from the top, but it's oriented vertically so it just gets in the way when coming from the side zipper. Also, the material was loose, so anything that wasn't clipped (like a pen) would just shuffle around as soon as the bag was turned sideways. And since the front pocket isn't gusseted, anything in there just takes away space from the main compartment.

Finally, while the bag compresses nicely when empty and can hold the slimmer shape, it has no extra capacity beyond the semi-roll top. Since there are no extra straps, it's impossible carry anything that can't fit in the main compartment (think sneakers or a tripod, or like I had to buy shortly after this bag, a new bike pump).

The third point wasn't a deal breaker since I still have the messenger bag for bigger loads, but the poor fit and the lack of organization were enough for me to return the bag and try other options.

Comments about Especial Vuelo Cycling Laptop Backpack:

The bag is perfect for my 3.5 mile walking commute to work each day. Quality construction and waterproof with out a flaw.

As a business bag though, I could wish for better accessory pockets. The front pocket is huge and sits way deep in the bag. The result is that despite the well place access zipper from the side of the pocket it cant carry all the accoutrements of a day in the office (chargers, business cards, pens pencils and all the other junk).

But that is seriously the only con for the bag and I feel like a heel for saying it. I love this bag and have been really surprised by HOW much I can fit in it - a full set of work clothes and my computer and papers. amazing.

Make ALOT of these!

Comments about Especial Vuelo Cycling Laptop Backpack:

I got this bag to review for an article and checked out some bags from other companies, but this is the bag that I actually use everyday. Im super stoked on this bag. I've been looking for a waterproof laptop bag because I live in Honolulu and when it rains here it pours. You can also never predict the weather here, you might leave the house and it's gorgeous then a few hours later the streets are flooding. My laptop is my life right now and I can't risk it getting wrecked by the rain. I actually tested the bag for 30 mins in the shower before I would trust it and it passed. I had a swig from timbuk2 and the pocket layouts were way better on that bag, but I use this as my go to bag now. I'm gonna give the swig to a girl probably because now that I've had the security of this bag, I don't want to even bother with anything else. The back panel ventilation actually works, this is the first bag that I've ever been able to feel a breeze when Im wearing it. Also the reflectors on it really work, I had my friend check in her car.

I use this bag for hikes and to bike/ metro in the DC area to work. I am a school teacher and often have a lot to carry. I even bungie this bag to the top of my bike rack when cycling with a heavy load. It has shown no wear from this activity so far, or damage of any kind. I have had no trouble in the rain either, When I hike, I like to bring water colors and a sketchbook, I often carry my gear and my families gear on these outings. The waist straps, close to back fit and shoulder straps make light of the burden. It works well, I am delighted that I chose the right bag for what I need. I would recommend this especially for a teacher with a physically demanding campus and commute, teaching multiple subjects.

Comments about Especial Vuelo Cycling Laptop Backpack:

I use this backpack for commuting to work by bicycle. I carry a lot of stuff in it including laptop, books, change of clothes, lunch etc. Quite comfortable to wear with sufficient ventilation to keep the back from getting too sweaty. I wish it had more pockets to keep things apart in the main compartment. Both top and side access to the front compartment add to the convenience. However, it is difficult to use the side access when there is a lot of stuff in the backpack.
