Comments about Navigator Duffel Bag 2014:

I like it. I don't LOVE it. I was looking for a decent-sized bag that is light-weight and can hold what a suitcase would hold but able to be worn on my back so both hands are free to carry other items (guitar, coffee, etc) while traveling. I got to test it out on a multi-city trip with lots of flying, public transit, and walking. The weight is good. The amount it can carry is good. It appears to be made of pretty good quality material. I only have 2 complaints. The first is something that I think could be improved on this particular product, and the second I think is my own fault for not checking the details. Ok, so first complaint is that the backpack straps are not comfortable, at all. I understand that the straps are a bonus feature, and that they do store nicely when you aren't using them, but when you wear the duffle bag on your back (with only clothing inside, about half full) the straps cut into your shoulders and neck. They don't have much padding at all and are positioned very close together so you feel like you are being strangled a little bit. Also the way they attach to the bottom of the bag seems cheap and I'm not sure how long the clips will last. My second complaint, which again, is just as much my fault for not checking the specs, is that I wish the inside had some way of keeping things organized, just a little, and more compact. Essentially it's just a free-for-all for what you have packed in there. Carried as a duffle bag this is ok, but when you put it on your back everything slides to the bottom and becomes unbalanced. Again, I think I could have selected a more appropriate product (or the smaller size) to address this issue, and I don't fault them for it. I love timbuk2 and their products, and their customer service is top-notch. I will continue to buy products from them.

I travelled for 11 countries using this bag. There are things that could have been better about it, but the size small fit everything I needed for 90 days. It was compact for easy portability, and not too heavy (after a day of so). I loved that I didn't look like a total backpacker with this pack--it was so sleek.

Please add more pockets for organization! I will buy again.

i think this bag is great. thus far i have used it once for a half week of travel. its big enough to fit the essentials with room for travel-find extras, small enough to avoid a burdening-cumbersomeness. i like the heavy duty quality that is not overly casual. after it was unpacked, my feline friend thought it was a great spot to hunker and peek out of.

Comments about Navigator Duffel Bag 2014:

I bought a medium for my husband to take on a trip to Mexico and he still comments on how much he likes it. This is BIG because he's not the sort of guy who cares about his accessories/gear. Anyways, the next year, I bought a small one and we use both of them regularly.

Our main use is for travel. We like to only carry on if we can. The medium is too big to carry on if it's packed out so I use packing cubes and bungee them together inside the bag and it smushes into the overhead without a problem.

The small is definitely small but I can pack it for a long weekend without any problem.

          We love:
          - The side pockets: the covers look cool AND they keep sand and dust and bugs and water out of the pockets.
          - The straps: we love to have free hands in the airport so this is perfect for us. My husband can wear this and then put his messenger bag across his chest. I have a bad neck/back so I don't like to wear things across my chest under any circumstance. We definitely prefer backpack straps to over the shoulder straps but you can always just use ONE of the straps for over your shoulder.
          - The colors: we got the carbon and orange and love it. The blue and orange looks way cool too but it wasn't available at the time.
          - The storage bag: I didn't think I'd like it but the fact that this bag can store in a pocket that is part of itself is pretty darn useful. I pack them down all the time PLUS I use the pocket as a dirty laundry or shoe pocket when we travel.

          We've noticed:
          - Internal divisions: the small duffel is fine because it's pretty small but every now and then I find myself wishing for some sort of internal divider. Maybe something like side mesh pockets that you could or could not use? That said, I think we'd leave it all just how it is. We use packing cubes and bungee cords and I'd hate to risk having dividers that were the wrong size and/or constraining. We prefer the bag just as it is (a multi tasker) but be aware that it's a big, empty duffel inside.

Comments about Navigator Duffel Bag 2014:

Large enough main compartment. Easy to use for storing things. Size small is perfect for my 5'5" frame. Nice material seems durable and perfect for traveling. Would be nice if those two separate outside pockets are even larger. But I like the fact that it has zippers and vercros for security. Is it possible to add a netting for water bottles?

Comments about Navigator Duffel Bag 2014:

One thing is clear to me now; I bought the wrong size! But that's my own fault, and not a negative of the Navigator Duffel Bag.

I bought this bag for the gym and the occasional trip somewhere, and it's in consideration of these two uses that something else became apparent, also; the bag needs a shoulder strap more than it needs to try and be a rucksack.

The buckles of each strap look far too insubstantial, giving the impression that the straps are an afterthought, wasting a perfectly usable end pocket to store them in. I don't foresee me using the straps.

The lack of internal organisation isn't a plus, either. I thought it wouldn't be a problem, but it is, especially for the large version of Navigator Duffel Bag.

I'm not sure what to make of the side pockets, either. Those flaps that fasten down with velcro are of no use I can think of, and only serve to make it tricky finding the zippers tucked underneath.

Compared to the Command Messenger Bag — which exceeded my expectations — the Navigator Duffel Bag is a bit of a disappointment, but still manages to do the job I bought it for.

Comments about Navigator Duffel Bag 2014:

I've been a long time fan of another bag maker, but I found myself outgrowing my old bag and couldn't find what I was needing in their store.

An internet search for bag retailers led me to Velotek + in Lenexa, KS. They took the time to show me Timbuk2 bags, so I went home and looked at the website. Unfortunately their provider couldn't get them the Navigator, so I ordered it online.

I was a bit leary about getting an entirely open duffel design as I'd become used to tue dividers in my old bag. But it has worked out so much better than I could have hoped, and the fact of having a backpack straps available is such a great option.

It holds all my stuff for work, and still has room for some groceries, or beer on thd way home from work. And I only got the Small one.

I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a versatile, roomy, and very handy bag for work or a weekend trip.

I got the dark blue with fun orange trim, I think they are discontinuing this combo which is a real shame - the blue is fantastic. It's durable, roomy, and folds in on itself for super flat storing. I know they still offer it in black, so get you one.

            What's this all about?

Small but mighty, the Navigator Duffel Bag packs a massive punch. Toted by the handles or packed on the back, the Navigator is compact but surprisingly spacious and its sophisticated styling that works downtown or way way out of town. The Timbuk2 team has tested it on weekend jaunts to Los Angeles and ten day treks across Asia, and managed to look prepared and presentable in both cases. The backpack straps easily clip in for a secure carry and are a cinch to tuck away when you don't need them. The large internal main compartment is wide and long enough for a range of clothing, even fitting a 15" MacBook if you fancy. The two external zipper pockets provide excellent areas for compressing underwear, down items, or power bricks and dongles. And the bottom zipper compartment holds magazines, shoes, or boarding passes, and magically doubles as an envelope for stuffing and storing the whole duffel. Who doesn't need an amazing navigator in their life?
