Comments about Timbuk2 Especial Viaje Pannier:

I bought this bag for commuting, and I have used it every day for a month to transport (interchangably in all sorts of combinations) books, binders, clothing, a computer, guitar equipment and bike gear about 20 km (or 12.5 miles). I commute on my bike 3 times a week and I have ridden with it attached to my rear rack and on my back.

My chief complaint isn't this bag is a little heavy on its own. I mean, it is, but that seems to be a turn-off for a lot of sports cyclists rather than commuters, and most of them aren't looking for the kind of volume and versatility that this bag offers.

My chief complaint, then, is the rack attachments. I'll qualify that by saying that I have had zero problems with it so far and they're very, very sturdy, but by their plastic nature I'm a little nervous using them on my bike. I'll get back to you if I have any problems with them, but man do they make me nervous. Why couldn't they have been metal? It couldn't have added THAT much to the weight.

Otherwise, though, I'm very satisfied. This bag has nearly no compromises for a product designed to be just that: it functions like a backpack admirably - comfortable, good weight distribution and quality materials that I can't see breaking (and that I would be able to replace with others if they ever did). It functions like a panier equally well; attach, close the flap, screw in and ride. 30 seconds, absolute max.

The bag as a container has a whole whack of space - far more than I was expecting. Very importantly for me, when I put it down, the bag's shape allows it to stand up on its own. The straps allow enough comfort customization that I can wear it while jogging down the street to get to class without having too many reminders that I am wearing it.

Good bag, great investment. If it lasts me two years it will have been worth it twice the price. This isn't just my favourite panier, it's also my favourite backpack.

Comments about Timbuk2 Especial Viaje Pannier:

When i opened up the bag, I was suprised with how large this was. But it fits everything perfectly.
Has some nice pockets for my laptop and keys, and other flat items..I nice spot in back of the laptop sleeve that I store my lock(would be nice if there was some velcro straps to secure the lock).
Lots of room for a change a clothes, a rather large lunch bag and room to spare.

My first ride..I was annoyed with it, I kept hitting my heal against it, and thought I'd have to change the way I bike, until I got to work and looked at it more closely and noticed there is an adjustable clip that pops up to lock it in place.
I used this on the way home, but the first bump i hit broke it off(probably should be made of metal).

The next day...i studied it some more, and noticed the clips that attach it to the bike mount, were pretty configurable, and I adjusted them to lock into place on my bike at the back of my mount - the bag doens't move an inch, doesn't get in the way of my feet.

Other then that clip breaking the first day I tried it and a way to secure my lock inside bag better, this is the best bike bag I've owned, huge improvement over the Timbuk2 Tandom pannier I had last season.

Comments about Timbuk2 Especial Viaje Pannier:

I LOVE this bag for it's volume and strength; however, I was very disappointed in the plastic hardware! One of the guides on the back broke the second ride, and I only have a 2 mile commute each way. I could not find a bag of this volume that offered such protection for my laptop ANYWHERE, so I do appreciate that. I just wish they had made the hardware on the bag as equally as durable as the bag. This bag has changed my life--I now am able to ride my bike to work daily. As a 50 year old school teacher, my kids think I rock!

Comments about Timbuk2 Especial Viaje Pannier:

I use this bag as a pannier on my bike commutes to/from work. Its convertibility is great; the switch from on-the-bike pannier to on-the-shoulders backpack (and vise versa) is easy and useful.

I wish the bag was a little bit lighter, but it feels sturdy. Also, I wish it had a couple of easily accessible exterior zippered pockets; everything is meant to be packed in the main internal compartment. The internal, compartmental pockets are tight, but useful enough to keep small items separate and securely stowed. The main things I carry daily are a MacBook Pro (15"), iPad, and clothes.

In all, the bag has been very useful. I'd only used a backpack before on my bike commutes. After getting used to it, it's been nice getting the weight off of my back and onto the bike, and the added airflow over my back has been more comfortable, too.

Best thing? Holds lots of stuff and is well made.

Worst thing? As others mentioned, not enough external pockets.

I have been using this product now for a few months, mostly for errands but I expect to do some touring with it soon. I bought it because it is large and can convert to a backpack easily. I wish it had more pockets on the outside (smaller ones) and a better key holder that is more accessible. It also seems rather heavy.

I got this bag to replace an Ortlieb that had no pockets. This one makes my gear easier to find. It slides easily on and off my luggage rack. And a word about customer service: when it arrived missing two screws, Timbuk2 took care of the problem at once.

Comments about Timbuk2 Especial Viaje Pannier:

I love it... i had made something similar out of an ortleib and some straps from a cehap backpack, but had wanted the panier-clip part on the back of the backpack, so i was delighted to find this model which does that.

I was sckeptical about the clear plastic pocket, because of the feel, but have come to appreciate being able to see into the pocket.

Overall, it does pretty much as i want... good panier that converts into a backpack for walking around. the pack is not one that i would use unless i was biking a lot and using it as a panier, but it is decent.

a few things that woudl be design improvements.

the biggest is that they should have clips for the pack on both sides. it is awkward clipping the flap when it is in panier mode, nad because of the way it is set up, you have to commit to either clipping it all the time or never. if you have the straps adjusted to the correct length to act as clips for the panier mode, they will get caught up in the wheel unless they are clipped in. I would like to be able to have this optional, as i often just bike 5 minutes and don't want to fuss with the awkward straps dor such a short trip.

One other minor thing. It should have some sort of external mesh pocket on the sides for drinks and quikly stashing small items in my hands.

              other than this, it's great
