Comments about Shift Pannier Messenger:

Solid product. Velcro is a personal annoyance (hate the sound). Rack clip takes a little time to put on and take off rack (you have to tighten the center clip to make it secure). Straps are barely long enough for me (6'1") and need constant adjusting when putting on (straps stay in place once on).

Comments about Shift Pannier Messenger:

I bought this bag for bike commuting about 40 miles round trip. My laptop and clothes for the office (plus a few small extras) fit perfectly in the bag. It is made of heavy duty materials, which is good, but makes it relatively heavy when combined with the hooks for the bike rack. The weight is not an issue once it's on the bike but is noticeable when walking with it. Also, a little more room and an extra compartment or two would be nice. Overall, I am very happy with it so far.

Comments about Shift Pannier Messenger:

Great bag. Good for versatile use, both on bike and shoulder.

The clips I am used to are a bit smaller, but the actually covered up pretty well when using it as a shoulder bag.

Both size and color options would be great, would love to make a more playful choice.

I like that you can take this on and off the bike with ease, and then hide the hardware on the back of the bag so that it doesn't look like a pannier. Pretty ingenious.

    Comments about Shift Pannier Messenger:

I received this as a Christmas gift from someone who knows my propensity for fast bike commuting. It's a fantastic idea, as anyone who has had to live through the sweat patch on the back in summer can attest. So far it's held up reasonably well to the moonscape that is Chicago streets, it's light, it holds my computer and a some of other essentials very securely, it's almost totally weatherproof, and though smaller than other messenger bags, it's not so small as to be a problem.

So why the mediocre review? Well, I'm not happy with the build quality. My current bag is actually my second; I had to return the first because the retaining hook at the bottom of the bag broke. This allowed the bag to bounce on the rack, which, considering that it contains my computer, is not acceptable. Upon closer inspection the lower retaining mechanism was very cheaply built of unreliable plastic. Timbuk2 really should build that mechanism of the same material as the top hooks (with which I have no complaints).
With the new bag, my problem is the computer pocket. It's a standard setup: computer pocket with elastic band and velcro fastener to hold everything in place. Within three weeks of purchase, however, the velcro patch on the computer pocket began to pull off; the stitching had broken. That's the sort of problem that gets worse over time, and it should not be acceptable on a $130 bag.
The last problem is the padding. Timbuk2 has a flap that fastens over the pannier attachment system on the back, but this flap is not padded. Result: the pannier attachment system digs into your back when off the bike, and that can be moderately uncomfortable or very uncomfortable, depending on how much stuff you have in there.

Overall, I have mixed feelings on this bag. I love the idea, and I credit Timbuk2 for having it. However, I am not satisfied with the details. If Timbuk2 can address the issues I've listed, though, I would have absolutely no hesitations about recommending this bag to anyone.

I use it to cycle to and from work, it is a perfect size fits all I need and great compartments for my tablet phone lunch etc. I think it looks great, professional, neat and high quality and I like that you can zip up the attachment section. Great that a waterproof cover is included
Maybe a bigger selection of colours, otherwise brilliant

Evidence that I love Timbuk2 products: I own 4 of their bags. But the customer service really blew me away. I can't believe how helpful people have been and how extensive their efforts to assist me. I highly recommend Timbuk2 for their bags and service, and hold them up as an example for how businesses can be thoughtfully and ethically managed. Major kudos.

          Comments about Shift Pannier Messenger:

Works great for commuting. It fits my laptop, a change of clothes, and a couple odds & ends (but not much else). It easily clips on and off the rack on my bicycle. The clips hide away and the bag is small enough to stash anywhere on days that I'm not on the bike.
It does great at what it does, but isn't for everything. I still use my standard messenger bag when I'm traveling as I don't need to attach it to a rack, and the larger size and more compartments come in handy since I generally travel with a few more items than I take on my daily commute.

            Comments about Shift Pannier Messenger:

I did a decent amount of research before buying and this was all that I hoped for. It easily and quickly goes from ultra sexy pannier to decently comfortable messenger bag. The strap length is great and easily adjustable. I wish it were a touch bigger, but thats probably because I carry too much stuff. The clips fit on my bike well and you can tell the design is well thought out.

Awesome bag, wish it came in more interesting colors...

            Comments about Shift Pannier Messenger:

I like hooking the bag to the rear rack on my bike, it stays on securely and it definitely beats having sweat on your back from a back pack. It looks good and seems pretty durable after its first couple weeks of usage. It holds pretty much everything I need for the day at school (If you have lot's of textbooks, I'd recommend a pad for the shoulder strap though.) This is my first messenger bag, and I like it, but it is good to keep in mind that it doesn't hold as much as any of my previous back packs. Keeping your bag off your back still beats having a backpack though.

I only have one actual dislike about the bag. It has a compartment on the outside that fits my wallet perfectly with a small zipper compartment on top of it, which is good. But, the zipper compartment on the inside would be nice if it had, like maybe some pen loops or something to keep it more organized. But other than that, great!
