          Comments about Strap Pad:

Why would you sell a messenger bag without a shoulder strap pad??? It was disappointing to find I had to order the pad separately...and after I had received the bag in a shipment.

The flat, mildly-curved shape will help it resist twisting and mis-shaping over time. Improvement over the stock pad it was replacing.

                Comments about Strap Pad:

The older strap pad was kind of sticky on the bottom so it stayed put on your shoulder. This one is not sticky and slides off.

                Comments about Strap Pad:

I am a medical student approaching residency. I prefer using a bicycle as my primary form of transportation. So I customized this bag with reflective material so I won't get run over in the early morning on my way to/from the medical center.

These bags are stylish and practical. I am proud to pay whatever premium is associated with having them made in SF CA USA. The no nonsense warranty and excellent quality are things I mention to all my colleagues when they compliment my terrific new messenger bag.

                * I do wish there were an option to request monogramming (my last bag disappeared) or my college logo (Roll Wave) (Tulane A&S '97) just to add a further personal touch.

                Comments about Strap Pad:

This is a long, curved pad built to make the standard strap for the Large messenger bags comfortable to wear. It's a good pad. I have an older, small-size messenger bag that came with a significantly thicker pad, and I find that older pad to be more comfortable, especially when I load up the bag. On those days when I have to really fill the Large bag to the brim, I'll switch pads for the sake of comfort.

                Comments about Strap Pad:

I own several Timbuk2 messenger bags and, while they're wonderful bags, the stock (included) strap pads miss the mark: stiff, uncomfortable and slippery. So I gave the Timbuk2 Custom Strap Pad 2014 a spin.

Compared to pads that ship with the Classic and Snoop, the Custom is a vast improvement: flexible, softer, better contoured, more grippy and better looking. Compared to the Deluxe Strap Pad, the Custom falls down a bit for riders: 4 inches shorter, no accessory straps and not as padded, comfy or attractive. The Deluxe is 16 inches long and able to wrap around the shoulder and hug chest contour, distributing a heavy load evenly across a large area. This design is at its best worn sling style. In contrast, the plain jane Custom is 12 inches long and too short to effectively distribute a heavy load across both shoulder and chest, so my bag feels heavier. However the Custom is contoured to sit with nearly full shoulder contact (logo topside for right shoulder), whereas the Deluxe sits on its inner edge when worn purse style. In a nutshell, the Deluxe is optimized for sling bike use with heavy loads and the Custom is better for medium or light duty and single shoulder (purse style) use.

The endearing feature of the Custom is the availability of a wide variety of Cordura fabrics, allowing coordination with 2014 Classic, Snoop and Custom bags. The comfy Deluxe is ballistic nylon and shades of black and gray. Needless to say as a biker/sling user, my next pad will be the Deluxe Strap Pad in basic black. If you prefer to carrying your bag purse style off a single shoulder the Custom is the better choice and I suspect what Timbuk2 had in mind.

Finally a few words about sizing. The Custom Strap Pad 2014 M/L is for 2" wide strap webbing and will fit any Timbuk2 bag from 2013 or earlier. If you have a 2014 Classic or Snoop, it only fits the medium and large bags. Apparently Timbuk2 now uses thinner straps—1 3/8"—on the XS and S sizes. For those bags you need Custom Strap Pad 2014 XS/S. I also bought a XS/S to use on my Billingham Hadley Pro camera bag and it works great!
