Comments about Tandem Pannier Bag 2015:

I love these panniers! I carry a lot of stuff regularly, so a messenger bag isn't always the most practical. At the same time, standard panniers can be a pain to take on and off or secure. With these, I can load 'em up, commute, and just grab and go once I get there. They're also great for groceries.

One downside is that actually using them as a bag that you carry with your hands is awkward and often just...ugly looking? They're a very bizarre shape if you try and use them messenger bag style, and are so long that I feel completely off balance if I just carry them with the smaller handle. Other than that, though, I love them!

Comments about Tandem Pannier Bag 2015:

Awesome panniers. The only 'con' i can think of: if there isn't much weight in the bag, it can shift around a bit. That might not occur depending on the rack you have on your bike.

Comments about Tandem Pannier Bag 2015:

I purchased this pannier for my husband as a birthday gift, and he is thrilled with it! He needed a bag for his new commuter bike. He rides his bike to the office 2-3 times a week, and he wanted a bag with ample storage for carrying his laptop, notebooks and documents, as well as a change of socks/shoes and sundry other items. This pannier fulfills all those needs and then some!It is sturdy, but attractive. The magnets do an excellent job keeping the bag from flapping around while riding. It is easy to secure the bag to the bike's rack and easy to remove once he arrives at the office. I looked in several bike shops and online at pannier bags. This TIMBUK2 pannier is definitely superior in all respects and is well worth the cost.

Comments about Tandem Pannier Bag 2015:

I purchased this bag because I liked the style and it was a great color match for my bike. It is also easy to put on the bike and take off. It is a perfect size and should last many years.

But there are two issues that make me question the design. One is that when the bag is full the seam that covers the outer pocket zippers pops up and does not lay flat like show in the pictures. It looks bad and could let water in. I question if it was a defect in the one I got. If the bag is less than half full the seam lays flat but what you see in the pictures is a full bag. The seam will not lay flat when full. The other issue is the material is rubbery which when on the bike rack tends to make a squeaking sound when going over bumps. Any bag will rub against the bike rack and this choice of material tends to squeak. I hope this goes away over time. It is not so bad that I want to stop using the bag but it is noticeable.

Comments about Tandem Pannier Bag 2015:

I live in Philly, & ride to various stops around town. What I really enjoy about the bag are the look, quality, durability & ingeneous design.

What needs improvement to make it really excellent: stronger magnets to keep the sides together when off-bike. Also, an easier way to attach the bag at the bottom of the panniers. It is very hard to reach the velcro straps. Plus, my fingers always pick up grease from the derailleur side.

Comments about Tandem Pannier Bag 2015:

The bottom line is I love these panniers and they are very close to being perfect. Overall, the construction is great and I love how much stuff they can hold. I have a 17 mile commute and on a typical day, I pack a pair of shoes, full change of business casual clothes, shirt and shorts for working out, bike pump and lock, 15in laptop, notepad, portable mouse, toiletries and sandals, and my lunch. I have room to spare and at 6'5", my clothes and shoes take up a lot of space- so don't worry about their load capacity.

Other reviewers have had concerns about how well these panniers fit on a rack and connect with the velcro. I have a Portland Design Works payload rack and the Tandem Pannier fits perfectly - not too short or too long and really well balanced. The velcro is really convenient and I haven't had any issues with the bags shifting or sliding. Also, I'm not sure if it is the balance of the bags or that the magnets might be helping hold the bags in place on the steel rack but I never attach the bottom velcro straps and I haven't had any issues even on some significant potholes that I couldn't avoid. I have ridden in the rain only twice and it was a mild rain, but the panniers held their own and were easily wiped off once I reached my destination.

My only negative on these panniers is that the velcro on the sides of the bags does tend to grab and wreck pants/bike shorts/anything that gets in their way. I should point out that this is only a problem when you start to load the panniers pretty full and the top messenger flap can't fully cover the velcro on the outside of the body of the bag. This could easily be remedied if Timbuk2 would put the grippy side of the velcro on the underside of the flap rather than on the outside of the body of the bag. In the meantime, I just make sure that I load one side a little less so that the velcro is covered and make sure that is the side towards me when I carry it with the strap. If the velcro were switched, this would easily be a 5 star perfect bag for daily commuting.

Comments about Tandem Pannier Bag 2015:

I use this bag for groceries and riding to and from my university. It fits everything I need, and has been very reliable. There are two velcro straps on the bottom that are a bit hard to attach to my bike, but I have found that only using the top straps are good enough. It's easy to take on and off, and I have already received many compliments for how stylish and functional it is.

The strap is a bit long for me, but I'm a very short person (5'1"), and it is also a little hard on the shoulder, specially if the bag is full of stuff. I wouldn't use it at a normal bag, or travel with it. But it's perfect as a pannier. I've also traveled with it in a torrential downpour, and everything remained safe and dry when I got home!

Overall, love the bag, and am so happy about this purchase.

Comments about Tandem Pannier Bag 2015:

I was on an 8 day bike tour and that saddle-bag was easy to putt on off. It went through limestone dust mud dirt and rain. The color never faded and kept everything dry. The straps were long enough but I had a bag on top. It did not ride balance. I had to balance the weight inside the saddles to make it ride balance. Orherwise,I already recommended this bag to other riders. I will be using this all year round with my Trek having more adventures.

These two super-durable saddlebag pannier bags magically transform into a single shoulder bag. Thanks to built-in magnets, all traces of pannier-ness disappear, when two halves become one. A 15" laptop pocket makes every commute a beauty. And while we can't say it's "waterproof" because you can't submerge it in a pool, its fabric-backed tarpaulin fabric makes it super duper water resistant.
