Dani Johnson and I have been creating works on fabric for just about a year. When i started to work with fabric I wanted a physical stitch to tie down the imagery and build depth along the edges of my imagery. Dani’s intuitive and structured style gave the screenprinted work a greater relation to the fabric and brought an energy to the surface which I could not create by just printing on it. Working mostly with clothing, Dani has begun to work on a number of surfaces and in this project created a number of flat panel works on fabric which we would pass back and forth. She has an eye for placement, in which she would pick and choose what fabrics and prints would look best on which stitching, forming a supportive yet loose feel to the photo based imagery created by my printing.
