Comments about Uptown Laptop TSA-Friendly Backpack:

I recently had a surgery and the doctors said I couldn't carry more than 20 lbs whe recovering. I had to travel for workshop and needed a simple carry on bag to pack all my stuff. I managed to pack 3 days of clothes (Eagle Creek compact envelope helped compress clothes), toiletries, mug, laptop, kindle. The bag fit under the seat and I was able to deplane without a hitch.

Comments about Uptown Laptop TSA-Friendly Backpack:

I wish I could return this bag, but school had already started and I needed something fast. It's heavy and bulky; even with adjustments, the straps are configured so that they bite into my neck (it almost feels like someone grabbing my neck from the back--and I'm not a big person). The zippers are poor quality and sticky, and you have to turn the straps inside out in order to open the laptop compartment. Least important, but worth mentioning: the blue bag is a lot darker IRL than in the picture. Sad that I wasted a lot of money on this bag.

Comments about Uptown Laptop TSA-Friendly Backpack:

I bought the Uptown for my wife and myself and this is our first Timbuk2 purchase.

We live in Hong Kong where we can't throw our bag into a car (public transport is too convenient), so everything I use is in my bag.

I was using a Kathmandu bag before which are pretty good too, but when I switched to the Uptown, I was very pleased.

It feels very compact yet it fits everything I had in my old backpack. The Uptown even feels lighter with the same amount of load. I think partially it's because of the dedicated pockets for the laptop and ipad which I carry around every day. Very nicely designed and constructed.

I also love the TSA-friendly design since we travel as well and I hate fumbling around to take my laptop and ipad out for security.

I haven't used it long enough to comment on the durability but I hope it lasts long, because I love using it.

If there is any "improvement" it's as some people have mentioned before, having an additional bottle pocket on the other side would be nice and a keychain holder but these aren't deal breakers.

I really want to love this bag, but every day I wish it had another water bottle pocket on the other side for quick access to my phone or sunglasses. It is deceptively roomy, feels very durable, has plenty of room for a MacBook Pro 15" and lots more. Great for a carry on bag. But I really want another outside pocket.

Comments about Uptown Laptop TSA-Friendly Backpack:

I bought this for a work trip to Rwanda a year ago (I worked for a nonprofit organization at the time) and the bag traveled well and held up very well! Since then it's been on several plane trips and most recently Ethiopia. It doesn't show hardly any signs of wear.

My only complaint is that because of the larger size you can pack it heavy and the straps are not the most comfortable if you really load it down. It can also be harder to fit underneath an airplane seat fully loaded but it can be done!

Comments about Uptown Laptop TSA-Friendly Backpack:

I can't believe I didn't buy this bag months ago. I was sure that this bag wouldn't be large enough to fit all the stuff I tote around (I commute to and from campus on the daily with books, a laptop, and a lunch), but I was totally wrong. I also ended up taking this bag on a four day trip to San Francisco, and it held all my clothes and toiletries with room to spare.
Additionally, I really like that the laptop compartment is separate from the rest of the bag; my water bottle (the water bottle side pocket is another plus) ended up leaking into the largest zip compartment at one point, but the padded laptop sleeve kept my Macbook completely dry.
All in all, I fricking love this bag. Thanks, Timbuk2, you're the realest.

Comments about Uptown Laptop TSA-Friendly Backpack:

I bought this for my daily commute and occasional flights. Haven't had it through TSA yet. I doubt they'll let me get way with it at a large airport like ATL, but we'll see.

In general, I am very pleased with the pack. It is durable, with lots of pockets and is deceptively spacious. It holds my 17" MacBook Pro and an iPad, with plenty of room for a few file folders and even an overnight's worth of clothing. Looks good, and not too silly with a suit every day.

What I don't like... there isn't any grip on the shoulder straps. The reality is that most folks don't wear a backpack on both shoulders most of the time, so grip is important. The straps are comfortable, but they are constantly sliding off my shoulders, even over a suit coat.

I'm also disappointed at the lack of a key clasp/lanyard. Especially when I'm traveling, I want to clip my keys in and forget them until I'm back at my home airport to pick up my car. They're also convenient for clipping a wedding ring to when going through security checkpoints. Big oversight for such a small addition, IMO.

The strap cinches do slip a little, but not badly (probably another side effect of single-shoulder use). Also, they claim it will fit a 17" MacBook Pro - and it does, but *barely*.

Don't get me wrong - this is a great pack. But it's frustrating just how close it is to perfect!!

Got this bag a few weeks ago, and I'm loving it so far. The back panel doesn't have the best ventilation because of the design but it is still very practical to use. Haven't taken it through security yet but I have used the laptop compartment and it is well designed
