Manufacturing
Rob Honeycut sewed the first Timbuk2 bag in a San Francisco garage in 1989.
More than 20 years later, we still manufacture all our custom products in San Francisco, and we manufacture our ready-made products in Asia. Manufacturing in San Francisco and Asia enables us to deliver a range of products at fair prices and the highest quality.

San Francisco
Timbuk2 has been making custom bags in San Francisco since 1989. It’s how we got started and it remains a core part of our business. Our San Francisco manufacturing team is incredibly skilled, fully cross-trained and fully committed to making quality products. We are incredibly proud and fortunate to manufacture in San Francisco.
Why Manufacture in San Francisco?
Local manufacturing enables us to sew and ship custom bags in 2 – 3 business days. And if the customer is in San Francisco, we can do same-day manufacturing and delivery. Other huge advantages of manufacturing locally include in-house sampling, real-time problem solving, maintaining in-house patterning and sewing skill, proximity (i.e. our entire team is in one building), low minimums (i.e. we can experiment!) and speed to market.
See what made in San Francisco looks like below.
Asia

Timbuk2 has manufactured ready-made (i.e. not custom) in products in Asia since 2003. We currently manufacture ready-made products in China, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Our factories have the highest ethical standards, production expertise and are accredited by the CSC, Bureau Veritas, Level works, and numerous top US retailers. In addition to regularly visiting our factories, Timbuk2 employs two full-time people who work on-site at our factories in Asia.
Why manufacture in Asia?
We manufacture in Asia to take advantage of technical expertise, competitive pricing and scale. We don’t have the required machinery or manpower in San Francisco to make every Timbuk2 product locally. Thus our Asian and San Francisco manufacturing facilities are complementary.
