About Timbuk2
Timbuk2 is a San Francisco original. We were founded in a San Francisco garage in 1989 by a bike messenger named Rob Honeycutt and have continuously manufactured in the city’s Mission District ever since. Rob made products that served his needs as a messenger, but it was never that simple. He had huge drive, a knack for brand, and an obsession with just-in-time manufacturing. Timbuk2 brought customization to the masses, selling custom messengers to bike shops in the 90′s and launching the first online customizer in 1999. Our product offering has grown to include luggage and laptop bags, but the made in San Francisco custom messenger remains our iconic style and the heart and soul of our company.
The irony is not lost on us. Of course we prefer cycling to driving, so an explanation of our motto is in order. In December 2010, the Timbuk2 team experienced an unnecessarily long pause on a ride in San Francisco’s famed Mexican Party Bus. As most action-oriented people would do, we began to chant, “Drive the bus! Drive the bus!” Our fab bus driver and friend Paco hit the gas and we had ourselves a new motto. Next time you get stuck, try thinking or saying, “Drive the bus!” and see what happens. You’ll most likely move forward and bring others with you. Beep beep!
The Timbuk2 team is a very San Francisco mix of young and young-at-heart, long and lean, short and stocky, US citizens, legal aliens, college athletes, tri-athletes, mathletes, yoga instructors, skaters, skiiers, climbers, trekers, cyclists, drummers, drama queens, Steady Eddys, new mothers, seasoned fathers, dog whisperers, cat people, bull farmers, egg collectors, urban gardeners, pescatarians, vegetarians, yogurt-makers, lactards, carnivores, globe trotters, locals boys, photographers, painters, authors, Burners, prepsters, fashionistas, and one Ironman. We work hard, play hard and always always say yes to adventure.
The Timbuk2 family is small but strong like ox. To maintain our delicate balance of working hard, riding harder, and always sharing amazing leftovers, we take our team seriously. In fact, we take it so seriously we have a whole comittee dedicated to running a healthy, productive, and meaningful hiring and retention program.
