Rob Honeycut sewed the first Timbuk2 bag in a San Francisco garage in 1989. More than 20 years later, we still manufacture all our custom products in San Francisco and we manufacture our ready-made products in China and the Philippines. We are proud of all of our products and where they get built. The factories in Asia we work with provide fantastic work environments, the highest quality goods possible and allow us to offer you the highest level of service possible . We specify all of the materials and construction details to ensure they meet the superior quality standards our customers have come to expect.
Our focus for growth is here in San Francisco. In May 2008, we were pleased to complete the remodeling of our SF factory. We set out to create a work environment like no other. A facility our employees are excited to work in. Plants in the production lines (with more changes to come) bring the outdoors in as much as we can. Good lighting and plenty of space were also key components in our redesign. Our newly configured lines will also increase production capacity, hopefully by 20% or more. With the improved efficiency and room for expansion we are poised for growth. For, it is truly our hope and goal to provide even more Timbuk2 products from right here on 20th & Shotwell in the Mission.
We’re still the same hard-working group of bag fanatics designing and making great bags and supporting our local community in an increasingly competitive global market. If “imported” offends your sensibilities, we’re sorry and we encourage you to purchase one of our custom bags that are made in San Francisco. Meanwhile, we are pleased to say that our new travel line, computer bags and packs are receiving rave reviews. The additional business is allowing us to hire more people in all departments at our San Francisco headquarters creating even more jobs locally.
