Our warranty is valid only when the Timbuk2 product is purchased through Timbuk2 directly (via timbuk2.com or one of our brick-and-mortar retail stores) or through an Authorized Reseller.

We also embrace the wild, twisty ways of life. If there is a defect in the materials or workmanship we will repair  the bag at our discretion. Damages not covered are those resulting from abuse, normal wear and tear, accidential damage, and cosmetic damages that do not affect the functionality of the bag (such as scratches or stained fabrics). Any damage to, loss of the contents of a bag, loss of use, loss of time, or similar expenses are not covered. The lifetime warranty also does not include our apparel products, such as Timbuk2 t-shirts and hoodies.

Your Timbuk2 bag is sewn by hand and might contain some slight imperfections. Like Daniel Craig or Marilyn Monroe, the slight imperfections are what add character to an already awesome product.

Warranty & Repair FAQ

What is covered by the warranty?

Manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship are covered, notwithstanding age. If there is a defect in the materials or workmanship we will repair the bag at our discretion.
*If your product arrived defective from Timbuk2.com please email Customer Service and we'll move mountains to right your wrong.

What is not covered by the warranty?

Damages not covered are those resulting from abuse, normal wear and tear, cosmetic issues that do not affect the functionality of the bag, and accidental damage. Any damage to or loss of contents of a bag, loss of use, loss of time, or similar expenses are not covered.  Unless a product is designed and stated to be machine washable, washing bags in washing machines can result in damage not covered by our warranty.

Wear and tear is damage that naturally and inevitably occurs as a result of normal use. Regardless of how carefully you use, or how well you care for your bag, it will eventually begin to show age and wear. Usual wear and tear not covered by the lifetime warranty includes changes in color, abrasions, and general breakdown of materials over time.  Some examples of common wear and tear include color fading from sun exposure, worn elastic, and fabric wear, especially in high wear areas such as corners, reflective binding, worn velcro, and worn shoulder or back padding. Some examples of accidential damage are rips or cuts in fabric, animals chewing or clawing on our products, as well as damage arising from airline abuse such as bent or dented luggage handles or damaged/cracked wheels & bottomplates.

What products aren’t covered by your fabulous warranty?

Any headwear, apparel or footwear. Third party attachments and or devices like the Joey power packs or NiteIze blinky lights, or Blue bottle kit accessories like scales, grinders, or cups. Any other third party accessories sold by Timbuk2 but not bearing the Timbuk2 brand.  The items are generally warrantied by their respective manufacturers.

Lifetime warranty? Which is the part that has lifetime cover

Got the bag sometime back as a gift. Never use for 1year kept in dark and cool place. Took out and the interior has already disintegrated. Wanted to claim warranty it and was told to pay 25$ first for a review. And postage is self borne! So what is the life time warranty? Every single part is consider a wear and tear so what is covered by the lifetime warranty?

Still love this company - but pretty disappointed

This is for the recent repair of my Clark backpack. Let me just first mention that I still like Timbuk2 and they haven't lost me as a customer or anything like that. But the lifetime warranty program was really disappointing in my case for 2 reasons: (1) the time it took to repair (2) the quality of the repair So, in all fairness, they do tell you that it would take about 5 weeks - it took just about that long. At about 2.5 weeks I was kinda missing my bag, so I reached out to see if i could get a more realistic lead time and to also make sure that BOTH of my issues were addressed. one of my issues was that the elastic band on the water bottle pocket started to bust and break. the second issue was a little more complicated - the straps would not retain their length. A representative did reach out to me and showed me how they would address the issue about my straps not retaining their adjusted length. The remedy was that they would sew on a second layer of "webbing" onto my "worn" straps (they weren't worn) to stop the strap from slipping. They provided a picture and it was EXTREMELY UGLY. First of all the bag design has a very intentionally sleek aesthetic. This remedy basically went completely counter to this design principle. I told them to please undo what they did and to just address the other issue. I figured i could sorta deal with the strap issue. Well, when i finally got my bag back, it's evident that they had repaired the broken elastic. but the elastic is BLACK and not as stiff as the original. In addition to not being as stiff, the replacement was a longer length that it originally was. I was generally pleased to just have my bag back, but WHY COULDN'T THIS HAVE BEEN DONE BETTER??? I would assume that if i'm sending it to Timbuk2's official repair facility that they would have a vast assortment of materials to choose from. It's just overall very disappointing. Mediocre.

Very fast repair

My messenger bag needed a new liner and velcro after years of abuse. I dropped it off at the factory store in SF on a Saturday and received the repaired bag in the mail the following Tuesday morning. Not sure how they pulled it off that fast, but highly recommend the service. Can't speak to the speed of repairs if you send your bag in, but don't hesitate to take advantage if you're in SF/Bay Area.

Lifetime warranty is a scam

I had to pay shipping to and from my place of origin (about $25), was told I'd be refunded a $25 processing fee if the bag was a "warranty fix," and was told it would take no more than four to six weeks to get my bag back. I received an email that said some different information once I sent the bag out. They had decided to keep my $25 because the bag interior lining, which is disintegrating, was deemed normal wear and tear, and therefore not covered by the warranty. I have no idea what Timbuk2 thinks a lifetime warranty is, but I'm fairly certain it should include a bag breaking down over time. Unless of course they mean the lifetime of a small mammal or insect that that lives for about five years. The best part is now I have to wait up to five to eight weeks before they can get my bag back to me. I have to pay extra to get this "quality" bag fixed, then wait almost double the time quoted to me? Still never got an answer back on why that is ... outstanding customer service. Don't bother sending it in. Just buy a new bag ... preferably one that has an actual lifetime warranty.

Great service

I had my bag since 2008 for daily use. In the last couple of years the waterproof lining and outside fabric on the back panel began falling apart. I decided to use the warranty service to rehab my favorite bag. I dropped it of at the SF Mission store and payed the $25. The seamstress was able to patch the back panel with matching fabric, replace all the waterproof inner lining and even cleaned of the stains on the bag. Then they mailed the bag to my home all for $25. I had my bag back exactly one week after I dropped it off over New Years weekend. The bag looks great and I'm very happy!!! I'm going to have this bag for another 8 years. Yay!

Worth the wait

I bought the Q laptop bag a few years ago and the fabric wore out where it sits on my lower back. I sent it away for repair with the request that the material be replaced with something more durable as to prevent another tear. My wish was granted! You would never know that my bag was repaired or that it didn't look like this brand new. Very, very happy with the outcome :) Although the repair took longer than I would have wanted (I just missed having my bag), it looks fantastic and I can keep using it for years to come.

Incomplete repair, bummed

I sent my messenger bag to be repaired as the back panel material was peeling and one of the pocket's stitching had unraveled. I was to send it in with the $25 and they would fix it and tell me if it was covered by warranty or not. If so, they'd refund my $25. Sounded good to me. Worst comes to worst I'd be out $25 bucks but my beloved bag would be in tip-top condition, right? I got it back 6 weeks later without hearing anything from them. Luckily I had sent it as a trackable package, so I at least knew they received it. When I got it back the back panels had been repaired (although with a non-matching material, which was fine) but the pocket stitching had not been fixed. Also, no receipt or other info came with the repaired bag. They never told me if it had been covered by warranty and if not, why not. Overall it was a disappointing experience.

price was right. service was not.

having a service department that will customize my bag is great. having to wait almost 8 weeks wasn't. after waiting the maximum of 6 wks for my repair my bag was returned exactly as it was when i sent it in. i will say that the items i forgot to take out were returned. at least they're honest. i had to call and explain the lack of repair, mail it back in and wait an additional week to get my bag back. i'm thinking that they take so long to do custom/repair work to discourage folks and to just have them buy new. ya think? anyway if something does go wrong with my current bag i will not send it in again. i'll figure something out. it's really disappointing, really. i thought TIMBUK2 was a first class company. i love my bag but never again. i would NOT recommend the repair service to a friend.

A new lease on life! (For my bag.)

I've had my Timbuk2 messenger since 1998 - after over 17 years of hard use (seriously - it's survived a motorcycle accident, numerous unplanned get-offs on my bicycle, travel, and daily use), it was looking a bit worse for wear. I brought my bag in for repairs, and the wizards at Timbuk2 gave my bag a second lease on life. It's like a new bag! Only, it still has the same soul, character, and lifetime of memories of my trusty old companion!! Thank you, Timbuk2!!
