We've Got You Covered

Timbuk2's Lifetime Warranty

Timbuk2 products have a lifetime warranty; we stand behind the legendary quality and craftsmanship of all our products. Our warranty is valid only when the Timbuk2 product is purchased through Timbuk2 directly (via timbuk2.com or one of our brick-and-mortar retail stores) or through an Authorized Reseller.

We also embrace the wild, twisty ways of life. If there is a defect in the materials or workmanship we will repair  the bag at our discretion. Damages not covered are those resulting from abuse, normal wear and tear, accidential damage, and cosmetic damages that do not affect the functionality of the bag (such as scratches or stained fabrics). Any damage to, loss of the contents of a bag, loss of use, loss of time, or similar expenses are not covered. The lifetime warranty also does not include our apparel products, such as Timbuk2 t-shirts and hoodies.

Your Timbuk2 bag is sewn by hand and might contain some slight imperfections. Like Daniel Craig or Marilyn Monroe, the slight imperfections are what add character to an already awesome product.

Warranty & Repair FAQ

What is covered by the warranty?

Manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship are covered, notwithstanding age. If there is a defect in the materials or workmanship we will repair the bag at our discretion.
*If your product arrived defective from Timbuk2.com please email Customer Service and we'll move mountains to right your wrong.

What is not covered by the warranty?

Damages not covered are those resulting from abuse, normal wear and tear, cosmetic issues that do not affect the functionality of the bag, and accidental damage. Any damage to or loss of contents of a bag, loss of use, loss of time, or similar expenses are not covered.  Unless a product is designed and stated to be machine washable, washing bags in washing machines can result in damage not covered by our warranty.

Wear and tear is damage that naturally and inevitably occurs as a result of normal use. Regardless of how carefully you use, or how well you care for your bag, it will eventually begin to show age and wear. Usual wear and tear not covered by the lifetime warranty includes changes in color, abrasions, and general breakdown of materials over time.  Some examples of common wear and tear include color fading from sun exposure, worn elastic, and fabric wear, especially in high wear areas such as corners, reflective binding, worn velcro, and worn shoulder or back padding. Some examples of accidential damage are rips or cuts in fabric, animals chewing or clawing on our products, as well as damage arising from airline abuse such as bent or dented luggage handles or damaged/cracked wheels & bottomplates.

What products aren’t covered by your fabulous warranty?

Any headwear, apparel or footwear. Third party attachments and or devices like the Joey power packs or NiteIze blinky lights, or Blue bottle kit accessories like scales, grinders, or cups. Any other third party accessories sold by Timbuk2 but not bearing the Timbuk2 brand.  The items are generally warrantied by their respective manufacturers.

Built like a tank, looks great, it's the perfect pannier.

Comments about the Especial Primo Pannier

I've had the Especial Primo for a year. I live in a large city. I commute via bike year-round. This is probably my 5th pannier bag in 10 years of urban cycling and I think this is the best pannier bag I've ever used. First off the design is massively useful in terms of sheer storage space, it can open up wide without too many obstructions and can carry a lot of objects and a lot of weight. It's waterproof - I've ridden it through torrential downpours and everything inside stays dry. It's intelligently designed, the way the inner pocket can also have items reached from the outside lower pocket is smart and comes in handy. I also like how it's fairly comfortable to wear off the bike - although I flip it around so that the rack clips face outward. I like that the top flap pocket is spacious. I don't ever use the laptop inner pocket for a laptop but it's great in terms of being a durable inner divider that works well to isolate fragile items. It also doesn't look entirely functional and bland, it's fairly stylish as far as pannier bags go. My perfect bag would be a bit of a cross between the old Timbuk2 Shift Pannier bag and this one (in terms of it maybe being a bit sleeker and office friendly in the look) but for the most part this bag is fantastic. The only minor complaint is I wish a strap pad was included. I do carry the bag off the rack fairly often and sometimes the strap without a pad isn't super comfy, but at least they sell strap pads pretty inexpensively.

Built like a tank, looks great, it's the perfect pannier.

Fine if mounts didn't break

The pannier is generally good. Nicely waterproofed. The pockets are a bit small, especially the one on the flap which I can barely squeeze my wallet and a set of keys into. I liked the pannier, but after 5 months of light use (~40 kms a week commuting), one of the plastic mounting brackets broke on a slightly cold day (-10 C) after hitting a bump. Not very durable.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Big, durable, easy

I bought these to replace a set of Chrome Panniers. The Timbuk2 Especial surpasses Chrome's offering in almost every way. The mounting interface is durable but unobtrusive. The Chrome mounting interface was also minimal, but tore up easily. I went through two sets of Chrome panniers because the mounting interface would tear. I thought the first time was abuse, but a second set tore up just as quickly despite treating them carefully. The magnetic interface on the original Especial was useless, but the newer version of the Especial opts for a simple clip that closes over the rack. The clip is minimal, durable, functional, simple, elegant, and unobtrusive. It would take special, deliberate, mistreatment to even scratch the Especial mounts. The Especial is also huge, over 30 liters. The back of the pannier is stiff and flat, and helps the bag hold it's shape even with a heavy load. The pannier has lots of pockets, but some of them are not very useful. The pocket on the outside is too small to hold a bike lock. The pocket on the inside is huge but likely useful only for separating documents or flat objects from the rest of the bag. The laptop sleeve only fits the 15 inch laptops, and then only if they don't have a battery or anything that protrudes from the laptop body. The top pocket is the most useful, and perfect for sunglasses, wallets, and stuff like that. The material seems durable. I dropped earlier versions, with the magnetic clips, off my bike at high speeds when the clips unlocked over bumps. The road abraided the surface of the material, but they were no worse for the wear, and seem like they'll hold up indefinitely to normal daily use. I highly recommend this bag. My biggest complaint is the pocket on the outside is too small for a lock, and the bag provides no loops are anything for attaching a lock.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend
