We've Got You Covered

Timbuk2's Lifetime Warranty

Timbuk2 products have a lifetime warranty; we stand behind the legendary quality and craftsmanship of all our products. Our warranty is valid only when the Timbuk2 product is purchased through Timbuk2 directly (via timbuk2.com or one of our brick-and-mortar retail stores) or through an Authorized Reseller.

We also embrace the wild, twisty ways of life. If there is a defect in the materials or workmanship we will repair  the bag at our discretion. Damages not covered are those resulting from abuse, normal wear and tear, accidential damage, and cosmetic damages that do not affect the functionality of the bag (such as scratches or stained fabrics). Any damage to, loss of the contents of a bag, loss of use, loss of time, or similar expenses are not covered. The lifetime warranty also does not include our apparel products, such as Timbuk2 t-shirts and hoodies.

Your Timbuk2 bag is sewn by hand and might contain some slight imperfections. Like Daniel Craig or Marilyn Monroe, the slight imperfections are what add character to an already awesome product.

Warranty & Repair FAQ

What is covered by the warranty?

Manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship are covered, notwithstanding age. If there is a defect in the materials or workmanship we will repair the bag at our discretion.
*If your product arrived defective from Timbuk2.com please email Customer Service and we'll move mountains to right your wrong.

What is not covered by the warranty?

Damages not covered are those resulting from abuse, normal wear and tear, cosmetic issues that do not affect the functionality of the bag, and accidental damage. Any damage to or loss of contents of a bag, loss of use, loss of time, or similar expenses are not covered.  Unless a product is designed and stated to be machine washable, washing bags in washing machines can result in damage not covered by our warranty.

Wear and tear is damage that naturally and inevitably occurs as a result of normal use. Regardless of how carefully you use, or how well you care for your bag, it will eventually begin to show age and wear. Usual wear and tear not covered by the lifetime warranty includes changes in color, abrasions, and general breakdown of materials over time.  Some examples of common wear and tear include color fading from sun exposure, worn elastic, and fabric wear, especially in high wear areas such as corners, reflective binding, worn velcro, and worn shoulder or back padding. Some examples of accidential damage are rips or cuts in fabric, animals chewing or clawing on our products, as well as damage arising from airline abuse such as bent or dented luggage handles or damaged/cracked wheels & bottomplates.

What products aren’t covered by your fabulous warranty?

Any headwear, apparel or footwear. Third party attachments and or devices like the Joey power packs or NiteIze blinky lights, or Blue bottle kit accessories like scales, grinders, or cups. Any other third party accessories sold by Timbuk2 but not bearing the Timbuk2 brand.  The items are generally warrantied by their respective manufacturers.

Warranty & Repair Process

North America Warranty or Repair Claim Details

Step 1 - Please select the appropriate link and check out to start a repair claim:

Please keep in mind that the repair fee payment is held as a pending authorization only - and will never be charged unless the damage or nature of the repair request is not covered under warranty and the bag can be repaired.

After checking out, you will receive an email with instructions and a form to print out. A repair number will be generated and will need to be included with the bag when you send it in for repairs.

Step 2 - Send us the bag with the Repair number

Please send the bag to the address provided in the repair details email. Be sure to write your repair number on the outside of your package. We recommend using the least expensive shipping method that will provide you with a tracking number and insurance. Timbuk2 is not responsible for parcels lost in transit. Your repair fee covers the return shipping in the lower 48 United States.

  • Package up your bag, include a copy of the repair form with a description of the concern(s).
  • Write the repair number on the outside of the package  (W-XXXXXXX).

Please keep in mind that California State law requires that all items accepted for repair be freshly cleaned. •      If the claim issues are covered by the lifetime warranty, we will waive the authorization fee and repair your product.

What's this all about?

A riff on a classic military rucksack, the Gist is both tough and tender. Its 14 Liter internal capacity welcomes all you can carry in appropriately compartmentalized fashion. A standard-issue slip pocket is convenient for storing heavy goods, while a no-crush zone acts as a safe haven for precious cargo. An expanding covered pocket keeps non-amphibious items dry and there are perfectly sized places for holding a 15" laptop, pens, folders, and other trappings of civilian life. Carry all the layers, road maps, field books, and dehydrated bacon you want.

Why did I deny myself?

Why, having lived nearly 50 years with inferior backpacks, have I denied myself the pleasure of owning a truly great one? For just a little extra cheddar, I now own the single best, most useful, most comfortable, highest-quality backpack I have ever shrugged onto my back. It fits my 15" laptop beautifully (plus all cables and goodies in the top pocket) plus an overnight worth of clothes and my dop kit, sits snug on my back. I have gotten multiple unsolicited compliments on the minimalist style while wearing both weekend clothes and business suits. My only regret is not buying this sooner.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Surprisingly big

If you are short like me and feel like every backpack that you try on makes you look like turtle, the small is perfect for that. Plenty of room for all commuting needs.

I LOVE THIS BAG!

I love the Gist pack! I have been using it for over a year and I love the look as well as the pockets. The pocket in the top flap is great for sunglasses, avocados, or tomatoes. Your stuff stays safe since it is suspended from the rest of the bag contents..The zippers to open the main compartment take a second to get used to, but once you do you won't even think about it. Inside the main compartment I usually fit my 13 inch computer, small planner and pens. Lunch and sweater fit nicely. I love using the outside zippered pocket for my keys, it is easy to use and spacious. The two outside pockets are little short, but they manage to hold my phone and/or wallet. I pretty much use all of the pockets in this bag and they are all conveniently set up. The body of the bag is streamlined and kind of simple in styling. I have the brown/with black bottom colored bag. This brown color contrasts well with my clothes (usually black, navy, or grey). I love this bag!!

I LOVE THIS BAG!

Great Urbanite Backpack

Been using this backpack for school daily use, as well as some weekend excursions and it fits everything excellently, comfortably, and is water resistant for sure. Even fits my 15" laptop! But not in the little laptop sleeve in the backpack. Overall a solid backpack I can see myself using for awhile. Thanks Timbuk2!

works for me

I was looking for a plain looking backpack without a big front pouch because I plan on traveling a lot and am concerned about pickpocketing. I eventually settled on this one. I really like the top, mesh pouch because it's accessible (best place to put chargers and snacks I think). The side pockets are everything, I love them so much. I don't really use the secret back-corner pocket that much but it's nice that it's there. The main compartment where I throw everything is great! I can fit all of my books and bobbles in there. I don't really use the built-in pen pouch but again it's nice that its there. My 13" laptop fits alongside the other stuff. I would say that this is a little too bulky and big for me but I like it a lot.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Not a gift for the friend abroad

The backpack is modern and stylish as well as light. It features a laptop slip holder against the back which is very nice, especially as the holder is slightly lifted up from the bottom of the bag, so when you place your bag down it doesn't immediately bang your laptop into the ground. A major con of, not this bag in particular, but all products by Timbuk2, is that if you're planning on sending this product to someone outside the U.S. (I was sending this to my friend as a gift in Germany) then buyer beware that Timbuk2 does NOT allow you to pay for the international taxes on the product. First, this means the total cost is actually some unknown upper bound on the cost you pay on the website. Second, this essentially means the customer must track down UPS or whatever company the company ends up using to send the product, call up several departments worth of representatives, chase down the package, and try to pay the correct taxes on the product, before it can be successfully sent to the gift recipient. Upon suggesting that this approach was particularly difficult for the client to a representative of Timbuk2, the representative first explained the difficulties of a small company in conducting international shipping, and suggested I buy another bag. Why? I'm not entirely sure. It was an extremely unhelpful conversation topped off with an attempt to have me purchase another product for no clear reason. I appreciate and prefer small companies but will probably not be buying from Timbuk2 again until its shipping policies make more sense.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

perfect commute backpack

I really love this backpack. I was looking for something slim to use on my commute that could carry all my stuff without being too bulky. My laptop, wallet, compact umbrella, phone, keys, water bottle, and small lunch kit all fit right inside without having to do too much Tetris. It's a really sleek design without all those jangling zippers and gaping pockets. Basically, a purse you can wear on your back. I bought the navy blue with red zipper detail and I love the little pop of color. My only complaints: while a 15" macbook pro does fit in the laptop sleeve, it's a teeny bit of a squeeze to get it into the elasticized opening. It's not a deal breaker, but I do have to pause for a second to wiggle it in there. Also, I wish the zipper opening for the pocket in the top flap was a bit wider. And a plug for the company: this backpack came delivered to my house in a poly mailer with a neat bike map of their home city San Francisco on it, how cool! And, they gave me a couple weeks to use the backpack before requesting I write a review, which just seems so much more civilized than other online retailers. I'm really happy both with my backpack and the service I received from Timbuk2.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend
